Womp womp… if it isn’t the consequences of my actions coming back to haunt me!

    2. They still won’t admit that it was dear leaders annexation threats…. Not the illegal tariffs.

    3. I’m no international trade expert, but I’m pretty sure they should be petitioning their government, not Canadians.

Welcome to the free market y’all love to brag about

Good. The point is to make it devastating.

Especially since most spirits made in America come from the two very red Conservative states of Tennessee and Kentucky. States that overwhelmingly support and voted for Trump.

Let them know there are consequences for their votes .

Edit: Even I as an American no longer drink American liquor. I now drink Crown Royal. Bonus, it actually tastes better.

Take all the money you spend coming up here and primary the hell out of pro-Trump candidates at home.

Do they think we are going to suddenly start buying their crappy booze? I used to drink bourbon but Weiser Rye is just better. The change I made is permanent! I honestly can’t even think of what America can do to reverse it. But Bitching to canadians about it, just pisses me off more

    7. Good, if anything I owe their administration a ‘thank you’ that they seem to so desperately crave from everyone.

Thank you for helping me explore and discover some of the best liquor I’ve had made in Canada and from countries that don’t joke about Canada’s sovereignty or whose distilleries don’t contribute to your shithousery. I look forward to not drinking any of your alcohol and would rather choose water.

So it is devastating for the American alcohol industry that their President is a huge asshole who constantly berated Canada, talks openly of annexation and who likely tank or walk away from trades talks.

Who would have guessed there were consequences?

You know what else is devastating? The US violating its trade agreements and imposing illegal tariffs on the auto, softwood lumber, and steel/aluminum industries.

„Chris Swonger, left, president and CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, says he thinks it would be ‚a great olive branch‘ for Canadian alcohol retailers to put American spirits back on the shelves.“

I think he’s got that backwards. THEY should be presenting an olive branch to US. We didn’t start this fire.

    11. Huh? Their elected fuhrer said they didn’t need us, how can this be? Must be fake news, right? 🤣

    12. Instead of telling their government to stop threatening other countries, they cry to the countries being affected by the people they voted for. Look inward!

    13. Swonger is white and represents spirit makers. He 100% voted for Trump. Here he is on CNN:

“Look, we have to recognize President Trump is certainly trying to grapple with significant issues, the fentanyl crisis, border security, reducing the U.S. trade deficit. But the tariffs impacting our industry will be significant…”

In other words, he first validates Trump’s outrageous lies about Canada before timidly pushing back based only on on impact it’s had on his business. Fuck that guy.

    14. skoolhouserock on

Huh, these threads used to be full of idiots coping, saying the numbers are misleading, that Canada isn’t making as big an impact, etc etc. pretty quiet in here this time…

“Have an American CEO mention criticize their president for threatening to invade their biggest customer” challenge

      Difficulty: Impossible

It’s not just alcohol for me either.

I used to shop at PetSmart for food for my animals and it was typically made in the US.

I now shop at an Independently owned Local store buying Canadian made food with sourced in Canada ingredients.

Bonus because its better quality food and it’s cheaper.

    17. ErmahgerdYuzername on

I was surprised to read „We are making our case to the Trump administration strongly in hopes that some common ground can be found“. Instead of blaming Canadians like I’ve mostly seen they’re actually understanding that it’s their government. But the whole „common ground can be found“ bit is bullshit. There is no common ground on the administration openly wanting to annex Canada and start an economic war to crush us.

    18. It seems there is a variation on this story posted a couple of times/week.

I get that it’s a successful boycott. But the reason it’s successful is not so much that Canadians mobilized to make it happen. It’s that government pulled US booze from the shelves.

It’s too bad we couldn’t get this level of success without the government.

Imagine if we had similar success on all US products.

Check where your products are from. If there is an alternative, stop buying American.

    19. It pisses me off that bans on US alcohol are not nationwide. It seems to be the only thing Americans care about in this trade war and one of the few leverage points we have.

    20. Old-Tiger9847 on

Too bad for them. Yankee nazi losers the lot of them. They didn’t care about our industries being hurt and they sure didn’t support our right to sovereignty. Can’t trust them and we should be done with them. And yes, this is ANTI aMERICAN  sentiment!
