she’s nothing like Charlie Kirk, her face is far too reasonably sized for her head.

Jehovah’s Witness folk were at my door recruiting last week. Recruiting doesn’t equal succeeding.

The capitalist class will always find a willing stooge to step up to bat for them.

Nothing wrong with open political debates on university campuses. In fact, it should be encouraged.

„Kirk came to international fame for his shtick of setting up a table on campus featuring a banner with a provocative phrase and the words “prove me wrong” — an irresistible challenge to idealistic students, who would inevitably be out-debated by the fast-talking conservative“

I can’t say that this type of group has a high profile on most of our campuses. There have always been conservative groups on campus, but the confrontational style groups really never seem to gain much traction. They got into the news once in a while back when their events were being canceled but that doesn’t really happen anymore.

My sense is that this stumbles across what may be some of the biggest cultural differences between Canada and the US – being the combination of our overall preference not to rock the boat, and how most of our universities are commuter schools where people go home after class ends without engaging with other activities.

      > “He was able to get a Republican president elected and, you know, regardless of what we think of that president now, he still got him elected.”

And at the end of the day, that’s what is really important, right?

    9. The same people complaining about importing wokeness trying to import right wing nonsense

    10. I would love to know what exactly she means by “ Conservative Values “. I have my preconceived notions, but I would love to hear what they are promoting vs what is actually happening in the conservative movement in Canada.

I wonder why these types of conservatives only want to debate 18 year old uni students rather than an educated adult…

Entitled insufferable people who think their political and religious views should be forced on everyone else. Literally doing the same thing they accused the left of.

    13. It’s ideas like this that I think it may be good to rewatch the Crossfire episode with Jon Stewart that led to the end of Tucker Carlson’s bow tie phase.

Similar to Crossfire, these „debates“ are just theatre and partisan hackery.

Edit: For those who haven’t seen it or want to rewatch it: https://youtu.be/aFQFB5YpDZE?si=6WOcBL537dUrc3oX

    14. IMO: foreign influence. Even conservative leaning people I know have zero interest in the niche issues Charlie Kirk zoned in on.

    15. Doubt she will recruit in big numbers, TP USA are struggling themselves.

MAGA is pretty much dead, and even the beginning of Trump’s term scared off canadians so much that most voted liberal again or didnt vote at all.

She will have even harder time once the economic impacts of the war with Iran start to creep in even more

We’ve seen what right wing views gets you by way of example in the US. WHY would anyone see THAT and say they want that?

I get Facebook recommendations for a group called „turning point Canada“ using the same logo
And the group is full of blatant foreign interference

      >Unify Action aims to bring Kirk’s debate-style content creation to university campuses across Canada.

The phrase „debate-style“ is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. Much of what Kirk engaged in wasn’t debate, but performance and sophistry. Witness one of his later „debates“ at Cambridge university (easily found via search on youtube). When engaging with interlocutors who were knowledgeable on a topic, Kirk’s talking points were easily seen to have little evidentiary or rational basis. It’s interesting to observe how he responded in this situation: His speech style shifted towards righteous indignation, and he raised his voice, as if that somehow gave weight to his words. That was the performance coming out in full force, but the content of his speech was still without merit.

      >Kirk came to international fame for his shtick of setting up a table on campus featuring a banner with a provocative phrase and the words “prove me wrong” — an irresistible challenge to idealistic students, who would inevitably be out-debated by the fast-talking conservative.

The irony of inviting debate with the phrase „prove me wrong“ is that Kirk was never open to the possibility that he was, in fact, wrong. It was all a show for those who already supported his position, or for those easily indoctrinated to support it.

Real debate isn’t about engaging in confidently-stated mic drops that can be cut-up and delivered as 5 minute youtube shorts. If students are interested in verbal sparring, they should join a campus debate club. There, at least, they’ll be able to engage in debate with actual rigor.

    20. This is just American Propaganda , this is just American Influence.

Find out who the Americans are and send them home, find out who the local trouble makers are and kick them out.
