But are they willing to put in the work and learn Japanese?

Japanese is one of the top three most difficult languages for an American to learn. I don’t see them putting in the work.

Well they obviously haven’t done much research otherwise they would find out the max they could mostly achieve is an English teaching job paying $1800 a month and they’d have to learn a globally useless language. Don’t move for the cartoons. The country is full of foreigners who realised that mistake too late.

I wish I could move, I love the culture, their cities are the best.

Not Thailand? Jokes aside, hell yeah I’d move

Lived there it was just like living anywhere else really. Was a cool experience but yeah kind of limited with jobs even with good Japanese language skills. Ultimately had to think of purchasing power, kids future and daily routine demands.

I’d move to do my career SATCOM where it pretty much a requirement to speak English. Not saying I wouldn’t be taking Japanese language lessons as soon as I hit the ground. When in Roman is my mindset. But it makes it much easier for me to get into a job their than other fields.

It’s in my list of countries I would like to live in or at least retire in.
I’d never have to work in Japan as COL is so much less than my VHCOL location I am in now (as long as I am not in center Tokyo), and I speak conventional Japanese.

I’m still planning to move to Japan myself

Note to Americans– Japan does not want you

I like to visit Japan and there are things I adore (konbini, my beloved). But realistically I rather move to France because it’s a liberal country that has nukes.

From speaking with friends who are American wanting to move to Japan, majority have no clue about the requirements to qualify for a visa. A handful of my friends with no higher education/ occupations in things like music and arts REAAALLY want to move here and work those jobs and escape the NYC/LA hellscape. I frequently have to explain how that’s really not possible. Especially now the business manager visa is not viable like it was.
