The same party that spent years pinning every penny increase at the pump on former President Joe Biden is now scrambling to explain why prices have surged to their highest level in years.

The Republican attacks were everywhere in 2022. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, gas prices surged to a record high of an average of $5 per gallon that June. It’s a familiar strategy for the party, using rising gas prices as a political weapon against Democratic candidates. From the moment Biden took office, GOP leaders lined up at microphones, held press conferences on Capitol Hill, and plastered “I Did That” stickers of Biden’s face on gas pumps across the country. Every rise in fuel costs was, in their telling, a direct consequence of Democratic leadership.

Then came February 28, 2026 — and a new war started by President Donald Trump.

    2. Its not a problem when they are the ones fucking up the economy. But it is when a democrat has to fix it.

„It’s okay to have a little less money in my pocket if it MAKES AMERICA GREAT!“

This is also what they say when they realize that they’re the ones paying for tariffs, not Gyna.

This is not what they say about ANYTHING when the President isn’t Trump.

    4. They also don’t want to talk about the epstein files, the people ICE murdered, or tariffs being a complete failure.

The weapons of mass destruction argument used to justify this bullshit is so tired

Trump math has republicans believing he brought down the price of gas by 600% (some people are saying up to 1,500%) because crude could have been $300 instead of $100

    7. VirtuaFighter6 on

Big oil is in control. This is the big run Trump promised them. They’re cashing in good and hard.

    8. Bishopjones2112 on

What about the president being a pedophile and rapist all while experiencing the onset of dementia and collapsing the economy? Can we talk about those things? Huh?

    9. LateBloomer319 on

No instead people like Sean Duffy say take a road trip! You can’t make this stuff up.

      The gaslighting is unbelievable.

    10. kevlarcardhouse on

They also don’t want to talk about IT email security, favouritism, Epstein, or the national debt anymore.

    11. GrilledStuffedDragon on

They don’t wanna talk about gas prices.

They don’t wanna talk about the Epstein files.

They don’t wanna talk about Trump’s dementia or failing health.

They don’t want to talk about the war they started.

They don’t wanna talk about providing healthcare, or a living wage, or any sort of benefit for their constituents.

…Can a Republican actually tell me what *policy*, specifically, they support from these assholes?

    12. AmericaVotedTrump on

Or egg prices or inflation or the national debt or anything that only matters when a Dem is president.

    13. When people wake up someday they will wonder why they let this happen. And to be frank will continue to let it happen. We the people have the power and we literally handed it to a bunch of Rich people. lol.
The wealth gap in America right now is higher than anytime in History of USA. And it’s because of us the people falling for the bullshit.

Needs to be Term limits on everything, everything!!! Because money corrupts even the well intended person.

    14. Same story with the national debt. We just passed the mark of our debt being greater than 100% of our GDP for the first time since World War Two and you barely heard a peep about it. Just wait until the Dems are in office again, it will suddenly become a national emergency. And there will be no mention of the fact that it is 100% driven by the stupid bills and tax cuts the republicans passed.

    15. InspectionIcy2452 on

Obviously they don’t want to talk about it because it makes them look bad.   They also don’t want to talk about Epstein, or people dying in ICE custody or killing over 200 random fishermen in little boats off the coast or how much Trump’s crazy tariffs have cost the average American.

They don’t want to talk about any of that stuff for obvious reasons.    But the question is **do they have to?**     American voters are not usually driven by issues.    They are driven by vibe.   And Trump and his minions are planning a very big vibe campaign on mainstream media which the plutocracy control and on social media which other plutocracy control.   Plus there’s gerrymandering.    Plus there’s plain old intimidation through Trump’s „integrity army“ and the inevitable „investigations“ and indictments of senior Democratic leaders just before the election.

    16. Of course they don’t – the inevitable consequences of their leader’s actions aren’t up for discussion, only praise: because in their eyes he can do no wrong.

It’s really pathetic – they don’t understand the actual meaning of „accountability“, they think it means „punishing my enemies“.

    17. Yeah, of course they don’t. So where’s all the noise to FORCE the conversation? When gas was high under Biden, you had the GOP talking nonstop about it, and you had „I Did That“ stickers with Biden’s face plastered on every gas pump. Where’s all that now? This should be basically the only thing Democrats are talking about right now, at every opportunity, because it affects everyone. Democrats should be going out plastering Trump’s face on every gas pump.

Is it petty and kind of stupid? Yes. But that’s where we are right now. Trump demonstrated pretty clearly TWICE that it’s exactly that sort of thing that reaches the voting public. Newsom has gotten a lot of attention in no small part due to his trolling Trump by mimicking his social media style, and it’s worked. Do I like that this is what’s needed? Hell no. But it is.

    18. What about Epstein files and pedophiles?

They stopped caring about that either.

    19. My mother and father are conservative and see no problem with gas being almost 6 dollars a gallon for me in the west coast and 4 dollars a gallon for them in the east. My mother actually said its Biden’s fault that gas is where it is now because, and I kid you not, HE didnt do the war with Iran during his time in office so its now ‚trumps responsibility‘.

I am tired of republicans trying to change the narrative.

    20. pleadingnocontest on

You could swap out “gas prices” with basically any campaign promise Republicans have ever made that they inevitably fail to deliver on. That’s their MO.

    21. ExcitedPlatypus on

The problem is, 9 times out of 10 the president has no control or affect on gas prices.

But, this is very much the 1 out of 10 times.

    22. NoWorth2591 on

Yes, Republicans are hypocrites and their only consistent principle is the belief that might makes right. A hallmark of fascist movements is the embrace of hypocrisy; rhetoric isn’t the expression of genuinely held principles, but a cudgel to be used against one’s enemies.

Gas prices mattered when it was convenient and they don’t matter now that it’s inconvenient. The hypocrisy isn’t relevant to the GOP because it helps them win, and that’s the only thing they care about. If anything, they look at the rest of us as suckers for caring about things as quaint as logic and precedent.

    23. Few-Counter7067 on

I live in South Carolina where personally I’ve never paid more than $4 for a gallon of gas before this month, after driving for 20 years.

As they are apt to do, the Republicans around me have started rewriting history claiming they remember spending $5-6/gallon under Obama and Biden.

    24. The best part is that this is the only time in my life that you can so clearly pin the high cost of gas onto the president. Trump alone decided to engage in this Iran war lol. It’s 100% squarely on him. We were not attacked. An ally was not attacked. It wasn’t because of some banks selling bad loans, or a covid pandemic. Nothing else compares

    25. CorporateCuster on

The he don’t wanna talk about anything they bitched about for 4 years. They fucked the economy once and now again just to bring back Jim Crow laws. When will you stop electing them

    26. Human_Thinker on

Fuck em’ they got us into this mess

Classic make a shit show and don’t stick around to deal with the consequences of their actions.

What a bunch of cowardly losers, that shouldn’t be holding public office if this is what they’re going to do

    27. Its something they ran on and since its a failed promise they don’t want it to stay in public now.

Likely why I haven’t seen much talk of it on the news as of late. Trump owns them.

    28. And Democrats have no idea how to use media. R’s repeat easily verifiable lies all of the time, like they are good for the economy, and media simply repeats it with out any fact check. And it’s not just the Epstein class media owners, it’s NPR also.

    29. All those pickup trucks that maga owns are about to have an issue with this real quick.

    30. Where are all the „I did this“ stickers that were happening when Biden was president? They could make gold colored ones for Trump.
