In Spain every region is autonomous, which is why the system is frequently referred to as „pseudo-federalism“ or „asymmetric federalism“ (this second case because not all regions have control over the same matters)

There used to be a joke about Madrid becoming an autonomous region, but here we are. There were also protests about the Spanish-speaking regions getting the same level as Catalunya, Euskadi and Galicia, which are culturally distinct.

Sounds like autonomous areas.

Equating the EU with Europe is equally brain-dead as equating the US with America.

Wouldn’t Switzerland be a federal state? Or should it all be orange like Spain?
Also, the Channel Islands are green for some reason.

Easily explains why many inhabitants of Belluno province want autonomy too.
Being surrounded by South Tyrol, Trentino and Friuli Venezia Giulia , similarly mountainous territories with ethnic minorities which were all granted the status of autonomous provinces in the aftermath of WW2.

Belgium is wrong. Belgium is split up in two overlapping ways and this one only shows the regions, not the communities. They have equal status under the constitution.

In Austria, federalism is less extensively implemented than in other federal states. This stems from the fact that, after the end of the monarchy, the Social Democrats feared the emergence of monarchist movements in the individual federal states. Therefore, for example, there is no police force at the state level. There is only the federal police. Curiously, however, most municipalities are permitted to operate their own police force if they can afford it. Some small towns do so.
With few exceptions, Austrian federal states are not allowed to levy their own taxes. The money is distributed centrally according to a distribution formula. Therefore, there are no tax offices at the state level. There is only one federal tax office for everyone.
Austria is a bicameral state. The second chamber is the Federal Council, which has been virtually useless since its founding after WW1. The Federal Council cannot prevent decisions of the first chamber, but can only postpone them. The Federal Council can only intervene if the lower house of parliament does something that falls directly under the jurisdiction of the states. This has only happened once. Furthermore, the distribution of parties in both chambers is usually similar. For many decades, there has been debate about whether the Federal Council should be abolished or strengthened. Everyone agrees that it is pointless in its current form.
In many areas there is a confusion of responsibilities (e.g. health or schools) and there have been demands for decades to resolve this confusion. Talks are currently taking place again.
One thing is certain: By definition in the constitution, Austria is a federal country, and therefore it is impossible to abolish the federal states without their unanimous consent. Many Austrians are even unaware of this. In eastern Austria, not everyone is convinced of the merits of federalism, while in western Austria, there is a strong sense of local patriotism.

Scotland is its own country, it’s not an autonomous region of England.
It’s a member of the United Kingdom (United Crowns of Scotland & England). It’s not exactly an equal union but in principle it should be. Autonomous region is offensive 🤣.
