My company’s fleet is switching to EVs. Getting a Mustang Mach-E shortly and they’re installing a level 2 charger in my home for free.
Worried about range though. Longer trips to Ottawa and Montreal are going to be a huge pain in the ass. Not looking forward to stopping 2-3 times to recharge.

That’s the effect of the rebate only for below 50k price tags. Nice.

50k plus plus plus. That is so much money to spend on a car even if you can “ afford it”.

Not that car companies aren’t still doing everything they can to sell you an ICE instead. You can finance an 80,000 dollar Silverado gasser right now for 0 percent for 72 months but if you want to finance an 80,000 dollar Silverado EV it’s 4.5.

Still too expensive.

Gotta love all the „most people“ comments about why EVs dont work. People just taking their personal experience and projecting it to represent the average person, or parroting talking points.
I own two EVs, live in a rural community, and commute around 500kms a week with zero issue. Yes, even in the winter. I’m not a green or hippy by any means, I just hate paying for gas and this makes sense for my family.
Here’s a crazy idea, if people want to buy EVs, who cares? Its weird how this issue seems to have become political in nature. Its a car.

Current fuel prices have me in the market for an ev. I driver 130km per day so it makes a lot of sense and we are in need of a new vehicle anyways. My husband drives 30km per day so he will stay with he gas car.

Cannot wait for EV’s to come in from Chery etc…they’ll be at least 20k cheaper apparently

I just picked up my first EV this past Monday. Already one road trip down.
I’m never going back to and ICE car. Not having to pay extortion pricing for gas is just icing on the cake.
* instant power delivery
* perfectly smooth ride
* low centre of gravity makes handling surprisingly good for a tall car
* hardly any maintenance
* never having to go to a gas station again
* if you are on a road trip, your car charges while you take a rest stop to eat, etc.
* not having to smell oil/gas (except from the car in front of you)
There are negatives, but I think they’re worth it.
* The maintenance that does exist is tires. You will go through them quicker than an equivalently sized ICE car.
* Road trip charging stations may not be where you want to stop for a rest break
* Insurance costs more

There are plenty of public chargers, they just aren’t as visible as a gas station. Download PlugShare and take a look for your next road trip. They are everywhere now.
The biggest problem remains getting home charging for those who live in apartments, especially renters. I do wish the government pushed to expand street charging and apartment charging more.

The new Tesla Model 3 is selling like a hot cake based on order tracker on r/teslacanada. It’s a lot of cars for just $39k. Glad to finally see some proper competitions.

Expect much lower EV prices in the next 5-10 years.
Batteries represent up to 40% of the cost of an EV, and they’ve been getting massively cheaper. Cost per kWh is down about 30% since 2020. And falling.
Like flatscreen TVs, they’re on a path to being much better and affordable as production increases.

I can’t wait for the cheaper BYD models to enter the market. I don’t think EVs will save us from the climate catastrophe we are already knee deep, but it is still a step in the right direction.

I wouldn’t get an EV unless you can charge at your home or work.

Anyone here with recent experience buying an EV?
I’m thinking our next vehicle will be a pure plug-in EV, hoping to buy in about 2 to 3 years. I’ve been crunching the numbers, and it seems like at this point in time the total cost of ownership is pretty much equal between a new ICE vehicle vs a new EV, and it’s trending more in favour of the EV as time goes on.

Seeing gas prices at the moment I’m so glad I made the switch to EV a few years ago for my daily commuter

We have two EVs. 2024 Ford F150 Lightning and 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5. My sense with Trump’s little war and the increase in gas prices is having an impact on new sales.
But also, resale values are likely going up too. Typically EVs had lower resale values vs. ICE vehicles in recent years. This is a brown dollar difference that many don’t take into account when comparing prices between EVs and ICE.

Can only afford to live in a 40 year old condo building, no charger at work. EVs are definitely a luxury many of us can’t afford still. We’re excluded from many incentives simply because we can’t afford a detached house and garage.

EVs are the same price as ICEVs.
Maintenance and fuel cost is lower for EVs.
