    1. Snore.

Next person in charge would come up with a reason not to do it.

No one is nuking anyone over a dead leader, that would ruin your turn of being a dictator

Kim knows this too, this is irrelevant news

Looks like Kim’s come around on those Choco Pies, since he’s apparently wearing one on his head to keep the royal haircut warm.

This sounds a lot more like he’s worried a North Korean will assassinate him, and this is just to ensure the rest of the world goes apeshit on his replacement if they do.

He would most likely be assassinated by someone who wants his power. That person is more than likely a family member.

Is it normal for a governing document to have a dead man’s switch?

I’m confused, was anyone really gunning for him?

I mean North Korea is sad but it’s kind of on the lower priority media wise of world wide atrocities right now. North Korea’s problems are pretty insular and the most trouble they make outside is relatively ineffectual saber rattling towards their southern neighbor who at this point have so much of their own political corruption problems that they can’t really pay that much attention. Sure they send their soldiers to Russian on the Ukraine front lines but that’s really more pitiful than anything since those guys end up as drone meat or porn addicts.

Is this just a play to make Kim feel special? Are China, Russia, and Iran taking up too much of the press about autocrats that it made him feel left out? The last media attention on Kim was the strangely wholesome declaration of his daughter as his successor. Is this some roundabout warning to her to not orchestrate his assassination to seize power?

    7. So if he kills himself, the constitution now requires the country to nuke his entire family? Nice!

    8. What if it happens and they don’t know who did it? Do they just nuke in some random direction?

This headline and the article is sentationalist and portrays the actual policy in a speculative light, likely to increase engagement.
From the [Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/05/08/north-korean-nuclear-retaliation-if-kim-jong-un-killed/?WT.mc_id=tmgoff_reddit_if-kim-jong-un-killed/&accesscontrol=facebookchannel_open) article they cite (which also portrays the policy in a strange, speculative and sentationalist way):

      >The revised Article 3 of the nuclear policy law states: „If the command- and-control system over the state’s nuclear forces is placed in danger by hostile forces‘ attacks … a nuclear strike shall be launched automatically and immediately.“

This reads as a pretty normal defense strategy. If NK sees a real potential threat against their nuclear arsenal, they will not hesitate to use lethal force. This is pretty similar to both USAs and USSRs policies during the cold war. Considering the US has engaged militarily in two countries with competing ideologies so far this year, it seemingly makes sense for a third country with competing ideology to proclaim their stance like this.

Also, considering the US Navy SEALS [killed several North Korean civilian fishermen](https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/9/6/us-navy-seals-killed-north-korean-civilians-during-botched-mission-report) during a botched mission in 2019, I think the North Korean government are well in their rights to do their best to defend themselves against „western terrorism.“

Poor little Kim is jealous that Iran is the newest hot girl in the room and he’s not the center of attention.

    11. Imagine they just hardcode into their constitution „if the leader is assassinated, nuke America“, and Putin starts thinking „hey so if we get a couple GRU operatives to smuggle polonium into his tea…“

    12. Would they actually go through with it if he was dead? Whoever takes over after kim is killed has zero to gain and everything to lose by launching a nuke

    13. Specialist-Gap-365 on

With whatever is going on around the world, seems like Kim just wants a spotlight
