The natural rate or unemployment for Nanaimo is around 4.5-5.5% btw, so this is significantly higher than the NRU limit.

      The highest so far.

Nanaimo doesn’t have much industry anymore, the biggest money makers are construction and real estate (going down), tourism is a growing but it is still fairly small and the biggest employer are provincial and federal governments.

Now, keep in mind that provincial NDP is running a big deficit. If they do not get bailed out, they might run out of money for healthcare and education, and then we will see unemployment shoot even more.

From the ground, it doesn’t feel like things are getting better.

Thanks Trudeau for importing millions of poorly vetted international students/immigrants stealing jobs from mostly Canadian youths

So are we gunna get unemployment articles for every city of 100k pop now? Are we to make decisions based on one cities employment rate? I understand why one may want to talk a lot the larger cities of which the pop is 10x higher or more but really? Nanaimo? Not even Victoria? What does ja rule have to say!
