    1. They only want the best gaijin to come into the country. The ones living in their little enclaves in Azabudai Hills and use their accountants to avoid paying as much tax as they possibly can. You know, those ones.

    2. Are you telling me these price hikes seemingly had no real support on reality and data and no proper study or deliberation? Oh my.

Can’t wait until they find that paying for 30k eternal one year PoS with no chance of PR in the horizon is not really feasible for many people and companies either.

      >Only 1 of 13 members of the consultative board approved the plan

Welcome to Japan, where meetings, deliberations, and votes are mere theatre while the person at the top of the COC unilaterally decides everything.

Even if a company makes no profit and you don’t get the corporate tax, all companies in Japan have to pay a flat 7万 tax every year to stay registered. Then the company also has to pay social security contributions for each employee.

So this seems like a move that will wipe out a good chunk of government revenue, I wonder how they’re planning to replace that, or what service will be cut

    5. watch nothing of substance come of this, as commendable as it is for someone standing up to this.

Wverybod says this government is against foreigners. I start to believe it is pro foreigners!

They do everything in their power to return the amount of foreigners so they (foreogners) don‘t get hit when they (gov) push the country over the cliff into the abyss. Very thoughtful indeed

Haven’t been paying close attention to all the details of these policies but this suggests something I’ve suspected for a while now – that they’re hastily implemented and not really thought out at all

Music to the PM’s ears. This was the point of the legislation. They don’t want foreign residents in their country, only tourists – keeping Japan Japan.
