Calling these guys separatists is a pretty generous term; most were either assets of the FSB or outright Russian soldiers. I still remember when they tried to push the blatant lie that the war in eastern Ukraine was some kind of civil war in which they were barely involved, and not a conflict they created by invading Ukraine and arming their operatives already infiltrated there. Eeven more ridiculous was the claim of Ukraine doing a genocide there; fortunately, except for a few Vatniks here and there, no one believes these unserious claims anymore.
