The trend of fans throwing objects at performers has become increasingly common — and artists are showing less patience for it.
In recent years, performers including Harry Styles, Bebe Rexha and Pink have all dealt with objects being thrown on stage during performances.
In Madrid, Eric Clapton reportedly left before the encore after a vinyl sleeve thrown from the crowd struck him near the end of the show. Spanish reports say the concert had otherwise gone smoothly before the incident.
For some fans, throwing gifts on stage is meant as a gesture of admiration.
For artists — especially older performers still touring at a high level — it increasingly looks like a safety issue.
It raises a bigger question: when did concert audiences start confusing live shows with social media stunts?
When he was spouting his anti social distancing nonsense during Covid I wondered why we kept forgiving Clapton. From his vile racist rant bad enough that Rock Against Racism was the backlash to celebrating his own boorishness in Wonderful Tonight (actually listen to it sometime) and much more besides he has always been a horrible person. No more.

Why doesn’t Eric Clapton ever shut down his computer? Because it makes him a lot of money when he leaves windows open

Who cares. He’s an asshole
Eric Clapton could have kept his big mouth shut, focused his undeniable talent on his craft, and kept his opinions related to things other than music to himself, but he didn’t.

He should have Laid Low, instead throwing blows at Layla. (Pattie Boyd)

Such a strange way to insert a factoid considering it was just two years out of 60+ years of his music career.

The number of people virtue signaling by regurgitating things they’ve read on Reddit about Clapton is embarrassing. Clapton has flaws for sure. But I have no doubt most of you are shitty people too.

he could have been hit with much worse things – when fans fill up empty cans & bottles with pee and toss them at a performer – most won’t like that one bit – it was only an act of endearment if it was a Sex pistols show circa 1977 ..
