addmittedly i cant be bothered to read more then the first sentences
yeah i mean my bf’s whole family is cluster b and even though his life is comparatively normal it’s still clear that his brain works differently.
i think it should be considered a developmental disorder. what with this and the research showing there are actual processing differences in the brain causing problems immediately updating information/ “admitting wrong”. 2 of my childhood friends were diagnosed NPD and ASPD with narcissistic traits and it was very apparent when we were elementary-aged kids that they had a legit mental difference (I have autism and we were in SPED together bc that’s also where they put the “mean” “rulebreaking” kids lol). and looking back its wild that my mental difference was identified as “not my fault” and treated with comparatively way more empathy and grace but people with cluster B PD-type differences are treated like they’re choosing to be that way and are fully responsible for it.
it’s bias that comes from (imo) people feeling some type of way about their lack of distress, despite the fact that the lack of distress towards their behavior is in of itself a symptom. like for me i also had clear issues compared to normal kids, from a similarly young age, but autism doesn’t involve a lack of distress towards the symptoms— in fact i was incredibly distressed by it!— so i think ppl are more forgiving bc of that. its like ppl need us to suffer, and if you’re not suffering you don’t get compassion. I mean even my mom who is a child social worker talks about the NPD-esque behaviors of kids with sooo much disdain and anger, and i just don’t get it. like this “bratty” 8yo girl firmly believed her therapist only ever spoke with her and had no other clients, and it made my mom offended to even talk about it, and it’s like… how can you not see the extreme disability this child must have in order for her to genuinely believe this to be true? she legit can’t conceptualize of other people on an emotional level, she’s *eight*, ok i get that it’s annoying sure but it’s not her fault?
as far as my friends; the guy who went on to be diagnosed with ASPD is in jail now. and i can’t help but wonder if that would have happened if adults showed more rational empathy towards the 10yo boy who was first showing those problems.
I dont buy this at all.
