The shocking thing here is the short time span. You wouldn’t expect changes like this in just 6 years, short of some cataclysmic economic collapse or war.

We need a worldwide movement that pushes people to feed, educate and nurture all young people, regardless of them being your offspring, ethnicity, or race.
The population collapse could be the greatest thing to happen to humanity, if we prepare the next generations correctly. We could have a world filled with intelligent and fit humans. Literally an ideal that, historically, was only thought possible though genocide.
It would be interesting to learn the distribution between levels of education and income. I am speculating that education correlates positively with the number of children, because high skilled education in math/sciences/computer science opens more economic possibilities for you.

Great for the planet, but not so much human civilization. It’s not that a big bad thing that total population is decreasing, it is that many institutions we have built are predicated on the fact that we have a demographic structure that’s roughly a pyramid and right now the pyramid is inverting in the whole world, but Africa basically.
This has gotten to the point where I wonder if some alien species or corporate pollution is making us infertile because it’s a hard pill to swallow that humanity is just completely fine with its own extinction or at the very least collapse of society.
Thats what socialism and leftism bring you.

Do Chileans realise what this actually means? A TFR of 1 means every new generation is half the size of the previous one. That’s means a drop of 75% after 2 generation, 87.5% after 3 generations and basically societal collapse/extinction. Your dog is not going to pay for your pension.
It’s social media’s fault
When you remove mask of love and illusion of existence then you realise that you are just a clog in capitalist system. Your existence matters as a taxpayer, EMI payer, tenant etc not as a human. Blinded by love when you reproduce a kid and hope for its good life, then reality struck hard and way harder. The capitalist machine just wants to loot your kid at every instance.
