My daughter in 6th grade has also started doing this. Well. My wife is ORE so I guess I live in an all male household ahaha. It does irritate me somewhat because I’m sorta clinging to what I learned in class but it’s their choice so.

    2. I noticed that female singers use Boku a lot. I wonder if some of the trend is influenced by music.

    3. It’s a tomboy ish thing at times. I’ve also heard that it’s “cute” in its own way, a bit more kid-like overall.
I just hope it doesn’t get distorted into thinking that using Boku makes a girl probably “a boy”.

i absolutely abhor using watashi/atashi myself for some reason

and the first one that keeps coming out is ore even if I try to stop it (as i’d rather use a more neutral pronoun myself)

so if either boku or ore becomes mainstream no complains here

Huh, my japanese sensei told my class last week that it’s very very rare for girls to use the boku pronoun, only otaku type of people use it.

This is nothing recent or in any way pervasive. This was a rare niche trend discussed in the media twenty years ago. I have never met anyone who does it.

In anime, it’s usually a way to let us know that a girl seeming character actually has a penis. If this really is a trend, that makes things even more confusing. Good for them, though.
