    1. It’s not a disease, it’s a consequence. They’ve overpriced their tickets and the market is letting them know their pricing is wrong. Fix the pricing, pick a different venue, and the problem solves itself. Not everyone can sell out a stadium.

well, also…who  gives shit a shit about them. certainly not enough fans to fill a swimming pool.

You have to be a high profile artist to be infected with blue dot fever.

Pussy cat dolls are neither high profile or artists.

    4. irespondwithmyface on

No offense, but who’s chomping at the bit to see sthe Pussycat Dolls?

    5. When I was 18 I wasn’t going to $500/ticket concerts but here I am buying two tickets for my teenage sons for Olivia Rodrigo. They have a very different relationship with music than I had at their age. They won’t be going to as many concerts – I remember when I could go last minute to EMF when they had (still have) one hit song, but it didn’t matter because we had a great time and we could afford it on our jobs. We also listened to radio and bought albums.

Something changed. I still have my 2500 CD collection that I never listen to, but streaming services that I use exclusively on we my awesome speakers. Listening to Dire Straits as I type this. I own that CD but it’s on Apple Music now.

Anyway, artists need to figure out this new age. You’re not going to connect the same way with fans (or the same fans) with $500/pop tickets, and I’m not buying at price very often.

I actually LOVE tribute bands now and go to listen to them a lot. It’s fun and it’s all about the music with people who dig the music… which is what I used to enjoy about concerts when I was young. How things have changed. Better quality music in your ears but worse relationship with live music from artists you love.

Some blame goes to ticket prices, but I know in my area a lot of the larger venues share as much of the blame. Used to be you could bring in your own chairs for outdoor seating, and now you have to rent them for $20-$30 plus wait in line to pick them up. Yeah you can bring a blanket, but try balancing a drink all night on top of a blanket on a grassy slope. Drink prices for alcohol and soft drinks are wild. One of our other venues does not allow reentry into seating if you go into the lawn, and obviously you cant smoke anything if you are inside. So god forbid you want to hit something at any point during the show- you are SOL. Bathrooms are a major detour. I think that tickets are part of the problem, but the larger issue is that people are just getting sick of the enshittification of everything!

Because everything is the cost of a mortgage payment. Who gives enough of a shit about a fake band to go through the trouble of seeing them?

    8. TheNonCredibleHulk on

Patiently waiting for the dude from the other thread that will apparently use his dying breath to say „they’re the sixth best selling girl band of all time!!!!“

    9. _BreadDenier on

I’ve basically given up on all live music.

Too many badly behaved people, and too expensive between tickets, parking, drinks, etc.

All to stand in a cloud of weed smoke and have my ear drums blasted because the sound guy blew his ears out 3 decades ago and has no idea what a reasonable volume is.

    10. Grrrrrarrrrrgh on

While rising ticket prices are absolutely pricing people out of being able to see live music, it is wild to me that anyone thought the fucking Pussycat Dolls could sell out Madison Square Garden.

    11. baron-von-buddah on

Even in their prime, were they able to sell out pavilions? MSG? Or theaters?

    12. ChrisIronsArt on

This is what happens when you let Ticketmaster/ Live Nation monopolize the market

    13. No, it’s the free market playing out as it should. The consumer dictates value. These artists are asking for too much money and performing in too large venues based on the public’s interest. Organizers are learning this lesson in real time.

    14. Also no one can make a decent salary anymore and the economy is choking everyone from six dollar coffees and high energy prices and rents.

    15. Alienor-of-Aquitaine on

BTS is sold out worldwide, and their tickets are *not* cheap (trust me I know). The market has changed, I think that’s true. But are the Pussycat Dolls the best marker to mesure this? Who was clamoring for this tour?

    16. philodendrin on

Nobody but the „Pussycat Dolls“ wanted this reunion – and only half of them at that. Its a cash grab to try for a „Reunion“ tour. Half the band didn’t show up – what message does that send?

    17. Why don’t these musicians have someone telling them to get real? Pussy Cat Dolls haven’t been popular in like over a decade. Same with all the other headlines for cancelled tours. It’s never anyone currently relevant.

    18. Tickets are way too expensive and Trump is ruining the economy it’s not that hard to figure out

    19. Acrobatic-Second-166 on

They deserved it. It was an odd roll out that only added to the messy pussycat doll lore. Nicole has no fans, pussycat dolls do and for it to be only Nicole and two others that were never even celebrated before is an insult to our intelligence. Nicole has and will always be a villain in this story. This now their legacy.

    20. dividingcanaan on

This should have been a house of blues type tour. It would probably sell out and the people there would be their most die hard fans.

    21. People seem to think capitalism is always about prices go up and they benefit.

It also means prices go down when demand goes down…

If Justin Bieber can sell out a stadium at $1k for the cheap seats then that’s properly priced. If you can’t, then it’s not properly priced.

    22. They’re asking people to spend a lot of money just to hear one hit from 2011.

    23. No what I love, articles that have a paywall. Wish I could read it for myself but oh well. I love redditers that post links to paywall articles mean more. /s

    24. IndigoBroker on

Why are they even touring by themselves? They should be with three or four other groups that are larger and more popular. I mean, look at Def Leppard, Journey poison they all tour together and their fan bases are exponentially larger than anything that pussycat dolls have.

    25. CertifiedBA on

I just don’t get what all these bands/groups that had a one hit wonder over ten years think they could sell these days. How much would a Flock of Seagulls show have sold in 1996?

    26. The little spending money people have they don’t want to blow it on over priced tickets just to have thousands of phones screens in their faces.

    27. catclockticking on

Why are the media trying to make “blue dot fever” happen? Can’t we call it something that makes a little more sense?

    28. Desikarma524 on

I can only remember 2 of their songs, Don’t cha & Buttons. Did they ever have a big fan base?

    29. Everyone thinks they’re Live Aid Queen at Gucci handbag prices.

Charge $50 in a smaller venue and you’ll have fire safety concerns over how full it is

    30. They are a two hit wonder from 20 years ago and have no business doing a stadium tour.

      Problem solved.

    31. Mephistocheles on

      Good, fuck them.

More bands need to play smaller venues and charge reasonable prices for their tickets.

Shreds my sanity when I see concert tickets going for honestly anything over $100 (and I find that actually ridiculously expensive).

Stop ripping off your fans and charge a reasonable price.

    32. actionmarkers88 on

I don’t understand why these types of artists think they can sell out a stadium these days. “Hmmm I haven’t been relevant in years! Let’s book some stadiums!”

    33. To-Far-Away-Times on

So many of these bands are charging ticket prices like they’re at the level of Paul McCartney or some bullshit.

The Pussycat dolls should be opening at Indian Casinos, not trying to sell out MSG.

    34. Anxious-Jury-9031 on

When is everyone going to admit the economy is absolute dogshit and no one has money for this bullshit except rich people?
