    1. When I was studying abroad it was the only topic that would make everyone (Italians, French, Spanish, Greeks and the likes) agree on something.

Who got the best wine ? Controversial. The prettiest women ? Controversial as well. Best food ? Oh boy, get ready for an argument.

But „what do you think about the romanis ?“ would make everyone shake hands 2 minutes in the conversation

Italians thought the questionnaire was talking about people from Rome

“Share of people in Europe who’ve had contact with Roma People.”

Until child protective service start doing their job it is a perpetual cycle that’s not going to change. It is so weird how little enforcement there is specifically in the Romani community. It is normal for kids just outright not go to school. I knew a Romani guy who stopped going to school since 7th grade. He managed to figure his way out in life, but he is an exception, not the rule.

They did not include west balkan because over 83% would look bad.

Not advocating for it, just a joke since i grew up there and the hate is pretty bad.

Id cautiously suggest the percentage in britain is much, much higher than that.

    7. 23% in the uk is 100% fake, guaranteed its way higher than that probably brits just afraid to say it or be direct

Edit: apparently some are pointing to the wording and others are just getting triggered or straight up lying to them selves about the truth that the uk is a lot more racist than its proper society lets on or that there is a culture of never saying something straight on

    8. “Share of people in Europe who are honest about their views”

FTFY, antiziganism is rife in Europe

      It’s definitely higher

    9. There are Europeans who have a negative opinion on them, and Europeans who have never interacted with them.

These numbers seem low in my personal experiences in many of those countries

    11. surprised to see Ukraine so low

in my hometown we had roma gangs back in 90s and early 00s, dealing heroin, stealing stuff, this formed such a bad stereotype so I thought everyone just hates them automatically

    12. When I was a kid I believed gypsies have some type of sharingan shit, and if you look in their eyes they will automatically hypnotise you, take over your brain to steal from you. Was anyone else told stories like that when they were kids ?

I can tell you for a fact that WAY MORE than 23% of British people have a negative opinion of Roma/gypsy

    14. Pretty sure this map is bullshit, especially while Poland is concerned.
I’m fairly certain it would be around 85-90% negative.

My grandfather moved to the US from the Netherlands in the 1950’s when he was 14. When my wife and I told him we were adopting a little girl from Eastern Europe, his first question was „Is she roma?“ It’s amazing how long these issues can stick around. To his credit, he has never once made any negative comment about it, or treated her in any negative way since we’ve adopted her, which probably goes along with what others here have said, it’s about their culture, not race.

Can verify that my Italian grandparents thought that gypsies bring malocchio. The evil eye! 🧿

In the town in Greece where we have our holiday house we have to keep the windows padlocked at all times because the local gypsy tribe will just come in and Rob you otherwise.

All the other houses and ground floor apartments around us suffered at least one break-in.

I know they don’t do it „because they’re gypsies“, (I won’t get into the sociological reasons for them being outcasts or choosing to be outcasts in some istances, because i know nothing about it), but they still do it so i kind of understand the local mentality? It’s not hate as much as fear. No one likes the idea of not being safe in their own house??

They also use to leave trash objects on the windowsills to mark a specific home as target. It makes me suspicious of any potentially innocent coffee cup left around my house. That’s not cool and not right.

I have a very, very liberal, very anti racist, very feminist friend of mine.

She then started working for a public hospital.

Anyone working for a public anything will understand. She also doesn’t quite like muslims, for similar reasons.

Begging and petty theft isn’t a great export for a culture and not one that is going to make you popular.

Months ago here in Italy a Roma guy was killed while robbing in a house. The house owner was inside, he defended himself with a knife and the burglar died in hospital.
The Roma guy’s family protested because “this is a murder, he was just working!”. No joke, they said working.

In Greece the percentage should be way higher. Pretty much everyone despises them.

For lots of reasons. Being anti-social and not following social norms, inconsiderate, aggressive, bullies, harassers, scammers, thieves, drug dealers, murderers.

They are disorderly, they cause commotion.

They are dirty, they throw their trash on the streets.

They abuse and scam social services for money, and only let their children go to school until their educational benefits and funding stops at the end of primary or elementary school.

      They steal electricity and water.

They drive dangerously and cause many traffic accidents and deaths. They even let their children drive cars alone without a license or lessons unsupervised.

This Easter they set up fires in front of a church, when lots people had gathered to celebrate. Not the first time they set up a fire.

They are obnoxiously loud playing very loud music from their cars and homes in the middle of the night and day non-stop for days in a row. Not even the police can stop them. They are afraid.

People are afraid to leave their homes and cars parked so they aren’t broken into or stolen. My family’s home has been broken into 4 times. Last time my sister was inside the house with her newborn. In broad daylight.

People avoid confronting, or even passing by them. I’ve been personally chased by a gang and got thrown rocks, harassed, threatened by a knife to mob me, and once almost got hit/ran by a van on purpose when they saw me walking my 7 yo sister home from school and they accelerated on purpose, when we were passing the street.

There are areas in Athens that people don’t dare walk or drive by, in fear of being attacked, beaten up or shot.

There’s only a small percentage of them that are more civilised and not like that.
