Looks like Ukraine is proposing an earlier ceasefire with the expectation that russia will not honor it, in order to justify not honoring russian calls for ceasefire on the 9th.
What a weak position Moscow is in.
They can continue attacking on May 5-6 and have no reason to expect anything but attacks raining down on their parade, or… they can stop attacking and Ukraine will pause.
The bully is gonna be mad, but they seem pretty weak.

That’s a very smart move. It creates a lose-lose situation for moscow.
It’s probably a good idea to include the additional context of the Russians unilaterally declaring a ceasefire on May 8-9, without Ukrainian consent or involvement – and this is a response to that. Declare a ceasefire earlier than that, so that if the orks break it, then UA has every excuse to hit the parade.

I’m actually confused. It says it starts at 00:00 „on the night of May 5-6“ – that’s odd English and it’s not clear if it’s an indefinite ceasefire that begins at midnight on 6 May, or a ceasefire that lasts 24hrs on 6th May only. It just could have been phrased a lot more clearly.

Great move. If Russia listens and stops attacking during those days, you can then do nothing on May 9 and show the world you actually do care about reaching peace and that Russia listens to you. If they attack then you show the world Russia’s is not interested in reaching peace on anybody else terms but theirs and there is no reason to ever listen to them, and of course, you disrupt their freaking parade and attack the more important and undefended locations. Win/WIn.
