    1. >Annual survey finds cases of 90-year-old parents caring for socially reclusive children in their 60s.

      Beyond depressing.

I sometimes read Yahoo Japan comments for fun. It’s an extremely conservative platform.

The population there seem to unanimously agree that replacing foreign workers with Hikikomori is the brilliant 4D chess move that will reduce immigration.

I just do not see that happening, ever.

    3. The good thing with nit having kids that the average age of everything goes up…

Well I’m turning 41 in a few months so yeah, the estimates in the article is just about right.

    5. Well many hikikomoris doesn’t get „cured“ so they age which raises the average. So that’s to be expected no?

Well once their parents die they will have to find work and care for themselves
Human will to live is strong. Theses will learn to change their lifestyle or due from hunger.

    7. wouldnt that mean that fewer young people are becoming neets? Or maybe their population is already so old anyway that there just aren’t enough young people to go around

Very scary when you feel so mentally insecure that you start cutting ties outside and stay locked in your house/room with internet as your best friend.

They need medical and mental help but many will refuse because of social stigma.

Family and relatives may help by taking care but only so far and when support is gone…

A few will be able to break isolation and rejoin society but many will choose to stay isolated.
