Carl Hiaasen warned everyone about Trump! *Mad!* magazine warned everyone about Trump! Hell, *I* warned everyone about Trump. It’s not like he pulled a bait-and-switch. Everyone knew who he was.

    2. TheDeadlySpaceman on

We all knew Trump was a scumbag when I was in high school

      I graduated in 1991

    3. ImaginationDue6258 on

And yet he was still ignored, like so many others who said the same thing. And, here we are. Again.

    4. He’s been a clear conman his whole life. Anyone who didn’t or continues to not realize it is just dumb.

    5. People who don’t know that Trump is a terrible human being just aren’t paying attention and/or aren’t educated enough to know that he’s a malignant narcissist.

Robin Williams was smart and paid attention. Not taking anything away from him but that’s literally all it takes.

The whole Trump thing is so confusing to me because he was such a joke growing up in the early 90s. Everyone knew he was such a scumbag huckster snake oil salesmen who was known best for cheating on his wives and bankrupting businesses.

How this all happened really just makes my head spin when I think about it.

    7. FreakshowMode on

Robin Williams would have been a more humane and competent President than Trump.

    8. Rare-Confusion-220 on

MANY of us knew. Many of us paid attention to what a scumbag he was for decades prior to running for president

    9. He was hardly a lone voice

Plenty of people talked about Trump and knew what he was like

    10. If you lived in or anywhere near Atlantic City in the 80s you knew this very well already

    11. Many, MANY people have been screaming from the mountain tops about Trump’s … ahem… lack of fitness for office since 2015, and before that in his Birther phase. Anyone within three states of NY has known who he was since the 1980s.

The world gave a decade of its collective life energy to a man whose „15 minutes…“ were up in Home Alone 2. Why?!

He never, ever deserved *any of this.*

    12. Some_Youth5883 on

Love Robin but c’mon A LOT of people warned about Trump. Nothing that has happened in the last decade should be a shock to anyone.

    13. Nobody needed to be warned about Donald Trump before he was elected, we all knew what a douchenozzle he was for decades. It still amazes me at how well he changed so many peoples‘ minds about him. As a kid I found him to be a joke, as a teenager we all made fun of him, when he was on The Apprentice, we all laughed at how terrible it would be for him to be your boss. When his suite was used in The Devil’s Advocate, it solidified how much I hated him for his gaudy Richie Rich excessiveness, and yet those people I grew up with embraced the rich asshole. To this day it’s mind boggling to me.

It makes you feel insane, but I stg the fact that Donald Trump was a grifting moron was common knowledge for years and people just „forgot“

    15. Remember when Trump bought full-page ads in newspapers blasting NATO in what sounded suspiciously like Kremlin propaganda back in 1987?
And just a couple of months after returning from his much ballyhooed visit to the Soviet Union…

Everyone and his/her cousin who lived in the tristate area knew that this MF was absolute trash and totally unfit for any office. Just the dumbfucks from the rest of the country, who were, are and will be scared shitless of losing their privileges and entitlements

      Now we are all fucked

    17. Positive_Type on

I thought everyone knew Trump was scum. I knew it as a child in the 90s. Then people voted him in and I was fkn dumbfounded.

    18. ScreenMuch90210 on

Robin Williams was indeed ahead of his time, but Donald Trump was never ever remotely likable. I learned to hate him from an episode of Sorta Pretty Ladies Holding Briefcases of Fake Money or whatever that show my mom liked was called

    19. Look, yes, we should all aspire to be half the man that was Robin Williams, but let’s not use headlines to grab clicks.

MILLIONS of other people warned about the ramifications of electing a parasite like orange face. Williams was one of many.

And the Sun will rise again tomorrow.

    20. I mean, no disagreement about Robin Williams being a smart/great/funny dude. But anyone with half a working brain could have warned you about Donald Trump starting back in the 80’s.

    21. Charming_Mud_9209 on

Everyone knew he was a scumbag conman in the 80s and 90s. It was a punchline. How he managed to change that narrative for half of america is the most stunning cons in human history. Just the perfect storm of a peak charlatan and 100 million suckers.

    22. Wasn’t he already well known as a horrible person for a long time? I mean Biff Tannen from Back to the Future is based on him, right?

    23. Sartres_Roommate on

To me, as a child, he was the epitome of “insecurity” before I fully understood what that was.

    24. Back to the Future 2 was released in 1989 and they were already alerting what would happen if Trump got political power.

    25. MentalDisintegrat1on on

People have warned about him since the 90s and he’s been a known career criminal since the 80s

Buff from back to future 2 was modeled after Trump.

    26. I’m sorry but it is and was fairly obvious …. Simple rule of thumb: would you buy a second hand car from this person ? If not then perhaps a bad choice for president

    27. Any-Concentrate-1922 on

No disrespect to Robin Williams, but many people (especially people in the NYC area) knew exactly who and what Trump was for YEARS.

    28. Consistent-Leek4986 on

His connection to Roy Cohn as his mentor should have set off alarm bells..years ago.

    29. Formal_Ad288 on

All of NYC have been calling this out since at least the 80s it’s just the yokels in the middle and south of the country that didn’t get the memo

    30. Saying Donald Trump would be a tyrant as president required precisely zero foresight. It’s an observation based on decades of the man’s behavior.

    31. Adept-Sir-1704 on

Williams would have been at the front lines DESTROYING trumps little ego from day one.

    32. Reachforthesky777 on

We knew in the 80s when he began clawing at celebrity with the ghostwritten „Art of the Deal“, and in the 90s „Art of the Deal“ was used as an example of business folly and ill advised self-promotion in business schools, and doing real estate business in the late 90s and 00s we’d go out of our way not to do business with him and his organization because of their reputation for bullshit.

Williams was right but, he was also only one of countless voices offering warning.

    33. Captain_Eaglefort on

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, with two brain cells to rub together warned that Diddlin’ Donny would be fucking catastrophic.

    34. JustHereForMiatas on

It was a bit wild to see the transformation of opinion leading up to his election, if you had hardcore republican relatives or friends in 2015.

For example: my father seemed to be well aware that Trump was a conman leading into the 2016 republican primaries and supported John Kasich. He did everything he could to distance himself from Trump, said he didn’t support Trump, he was clearly the wrong direction for the party, etc.

My uncles were even more clear about it, with one of them (a „born again christian“) claiming he was „possibly the antichrist.“ In a bit of foresight I actually screenshotted and saved him telling me this.

The moment it was clear that Trump won the primary, they changed opinions on a dime. It was suddenly „Trump is a little rough around the edges and abrasive, but the system needs to be shaken up! The amount of media hate for him borders on derangement, blah, blah, blah…“

The second it was him or Hillary, they justified Trump in their minds and didn’t turn back. Once they voted for him once there was nothing that could convince them that they’d done wrong. Every escalation from Trump from there on out has been an opportunity to double down, and they’ve strayed further from reality with each passing news cycle.

    35. Everyone with an above room temperature IQ could see this coming, Robin Williams was great but this doesn’t make him special lol

    36. TheShipEliza on

Are we really gonna act like this was some prescient thing when millions of people were saying the same thing including the woman running against him?

    37. aliceanonymous99 on

Everyone knew he was and is a piece of shit. Not ahead of his time just his finger on the very loud pulse

    38. Worth-Wrangler7242 on

Donal Trump is a loser. Always has been. Everyone who isn’t a complete moron knows this.

    39. nockeenockee on

Anybody around in the 80s knew this guy was a complete joke. How this clown managed to become President will be the origin story of this nations downfall.

    40. I started warning people about Donald Trump back in the early to mid-80’s – well before ‚The Art of the Deal‘ – and years before the „Central Park Five“ case – where Trump really showed us who & what he was ..

    41. humongousgoat on

Ask anyone who’s worked for trump before he was president. My dad was an architect and has many friends who weren’t paid

    42. Love Robin Williams but anyone with a IQ of a 10 year old could see trump is a conman

    43. workingtheories on

is that not what back to the future 2 was also warning people about??  ppl have a hard time connecting dots i swear
