We didn’t have any choice being here, but we’ll be damned if we’re forcing anybody else to have to live through this shit.
It’s not surprising.
Pay is low and rent is high. Student loans are ridiculous. Health insurance is outrageous. Gas and food is more expensive by the day.
Just keeping yourself fed, clothed, and sheltered is verging on the impossible. Who the hell can afford to raise a child????
Having a baby is becoming a luxury that many just can’t afford. If you don’t realize that, you aren’t paying attention.
Honestly that’s probably for the best.
Well, this should all get fixed soon when republicans make more inroads on banning birth control 🙃

Housing is expensive because your city council blocks developers from building more of it. More supply means prices drop for rich boomers homes. If you’re young and can’t afford to buy or rent, vote for candidates who will remove barriers to building. That’s it.
I make 86k a year, have a house, a car, and a dog. I’ll be damned if I’m throwing that away for 20k/year childcare.
Pay me more or make shit cheaper.

There are so many factors that go into to this it’s not even funny. I’m going to try and name all the ones I can think of and if anyone wants to add on please feel free to do so.
Cost of living, daycare costs, housing affordability, rising insurance costs, poor food quality (causing fertility issues), men’s sperm now has micro plastics, Covid ruining dating, sorry Gen Z I’m going to throw this one on you guys but lower alcohol consumption.
A few years ago overpopulation gloom and doom was all the rage in the media. I don’t see the problem with dropping birth rates since it solves the overpopulation problem.
I creamer to the conclusion that we figured out we dont need to have 7 children in hopes that 3 live to see adulthood, we have an abundance of food and entertainment, and things are easier, so we dont need to try for 3 or more kids.
But then I realize that we can barely afford kids let alone have time to raise them.
It’s a total mystery why people are less likely to want children when living in a flat and barely keeping their heads above water financially.
Don’t you have to even pay a fucking fortune to just give birth in the states? And that’s without complications.
Also in the past the family unit was much stronger.
It’s actually mind boggling how many boomers are absolute selfish fucks that would rather waste their money than support their families.
There’s raising a family in a single family home with support from siblings and parents and close relatives and friends.
And there’s trying to raise a family by yourselves in a flat or an overpriced lil space and your entire families wellbeing being based around healthcare provided by your job.
But yeah it’s totally because of TikTok and liberals and communism or something
We have too many people as it is.
Because when you take away abortion access you get hordes of people getting voluntarily sterilized while they can.
Me, I have been sterilized for 26 years but it has been something watching this happen. I have been supportive of the large numbers of people doing what is necessary to make sure they cannot ever be forced to have children. To not bring poor unwilling humans into this world to be exploited and terrorized.
You want birth rates to return, bring back a world people want to bring children into. Because we are not having this assault on reproductive justice, and we are not complying.
Current admin is taking the country into instability, a weak dollar, and higher medical insurance costs. Everybody wants their kid to have a good start. Right now feels like a bad start.

Good. These are the natural consequences of making pregnancy and childrearing so risky, expensive and difficult.
My wife and I cant have kids and literally everyone single couple we know from our family and friends all have kids. Its great for them and really tough for us. Would be nice if we knew some of these childfree people.
There is a direct correlation between birth rates and corporate gains tax… excluding Australia for some reason.
Eh I know everyone’s going to immediately jump upon whatever their personally preferred cause is as the reason, but end of the day? I think that once everyone has equal choices and autonomy, they will always choose to have fewer kids, if any. And before people come at me: I agree that healthcare, daycare/childcare, etc. should be accessible and affordable. I also think the government’s role in any society is to support it’s citizens, from universal healthcare to a UBI.
My kids are between 19 and 29 and none of them are showing any interest in having kids. They all seem to be of the mind that between the rising cost of living, degradation of the environment, American politics and AI taking over, that the future is looking pretty fucking bleak and what’s the point of bringing a kid into this world. I selfishly find it sad, because they are my biggest joy in this world and wish them the same, but I kind of get it. I worry for them.
Statistics tend to show that poorer and less educated people tend to have more kids. This is true even in developed countries that provide free childcare and robust social programs and safety nets. The more educated and well off, the fewer kids people tend to have.
I honestly think this is why so many in the billionaire ruling class are pushing to make the rest of us poorer and dumber.
The cost of just HAVING a kid, let alone the nine months of medical stuff is expensive. That doesn’t even include the post-birth costs.
I’m surprised the fertility rate is still as high as it is, honestly.
