‚oh my god, he responded, how do I try and make myself the victim‘

    2. denyer-no1-fan on

Given that the Met said nothing when Tommy Robinson and Nigel Farage accused them of „two-tier policing“, I’d say this is blatant political interference one week before the London local elections.

    3. qwerty_1965 on

Who’s he appealing to? Cranks, extremists, people who vote on foreign issues which are irrelevant to local council business.

    4. Dependent-Ant-9241 on

Made himself completely unelectable this past week.

      Great news.

    5. Entire_Nerve_1335 on

I don’t have strong opinions on him one way or the other but this all strikes me as exceptionally bad politics. Like not only has he fucked up, he seems absolutely determined to keep it in the news cycle

    6. Lucifer_606381 on

So the leader of the Greens has given his two pence on a matter in which he has zero experience. Making statements on how he thinks a terrorist suspect in the middle of an attack should be arrested, he is now complaining that he was put straight. Still, the Chief of the Met is now whining about it, stating he is breaching the neutrality rule of Policing?

I do not see why he thought it would be a good Idea to give armchair police advice. Any time MPs do this, they always end up being wrong and do not have the full facts, but what to get some clout in the moment

    7. HelloDucky1234 on

I get that what Zack said was wrong, but I do think this particular Met chief is way too happy to get involved and give his opinion on policy and politics.

Which I guess is his right but I think it’s a dangerous precedent to set, ideally we want the police to be completely apolitical right? Otherwise you end up with situations like in America where police can be highly political and that leads to numerous issues.

This isn’t the first time he’s done this either and because he was largely seen as justified on responding this time I’m concerned he’ll end up speaking on political matters more and more.

Is this the same guy that said he could perform hypnotherapy to increase breast size ?!

    9. Throwitaway701 on

He’s correct. This is a blatant interference, you’ll notice at no point has he ever written to Farage about his two tier claims.

This is on the back of arresting Green candidates despite no such arrears being made of Reform or Tory ones for similar levels of comments or worse.

    10. signpostlake on

The open letter from the chief wasn’t about election interference. It was publicly defending the officers that Polanski publicly attacked.

It’s likely cost Green some moderate votes but that’s on him.

    11. WayComprehensive9220 on

I love the mental gymnastics from his loyal buffoons excusing everything he does.

    12. kahnindustries on

I don’t think I have grown to despise a party leader as fast as Polanski, and there have been some doozies recently

    13. An awful lot of these kinds of posts lately with noun-noun-fourdigit accounts replying and reaching the top comments. Are these accounts paid for by labour or reform or both?

    14. CensorTheologiae on

He’s damn right to. The police are subject to purdah. Rowley was free to write a private letter – but to publish it during purdah is an obvious breach, and possibly illegal canvassing.

    15. FarBeyondPissed on

Generally like what Polanski has done for the Greens so far in terms of increasing their popularity, dramatically increasing the voter share they’re fighting for and making issues like wealth inequality a key point to raise and rally against.

Hes fucking up massively with this though. The tweet was stupid, he could have tried to minimise the impact of that stupid intervention of his by accepting he was wrong and shutting up about it and trying to draw focus back to the election and the issues they wish to campaign on.

Instead he’s crashing out on an issue he’s wrong about, is in opposition to the vast majority of the public on and will actually harm the Greens in the local election results given even other Green members, politicians and voters are distancing themselves from him on this.

Pretty much every intervention he’s had on this will have made people whose vote he’s chasing less likely to vote for him.

He’s had good political instincts so far as leader for the most part. This is a big misstep though and people close to him need to have a word with him and highlight the damage he’s doing.

    16. PabloMarmite on

There’s something almost Trumpian about how much Polanski and his supporters really, really hate any criticism.

    17. FlamingoOk3026 on

Don’t think he’s earning the greens any brownie points here. When your in a hole stop digging

    18. He’s achieving one significant thing – he’s building a brand. Far more people are going to know who he is now compared to a week ago.

It’s the problem the lib Dems have had for…ages (since clegg) no one even knows who they are because the media won’t talk about them. Turns out all you need to do is ragebait.

    19. SadDippingBird on

Polanski was correct. The Police could have simply broken the man’s arm/wrist with a baton or quick cuffs. Head kicking shows poor training, and poor performance under pressure.

    20. HotMachine9 on

This will be his gimmick for the next few years.

Constantly criticise the police trying to protect innocent people, making it out like we live in America.

Police already are at their breaking points, operating in impossible budgets, under intense scrutiny, and when they tackle terrorism you now have this grifter accusing anyone who dares to protect officers upholding the law of election interference.

Im not saying the police shouldn’t be scrutinised. But I also think it is incredibly dangerous to make it so countering terrorism is now controversial. In this case people were at very serious risk of being killed. How on earth is the police using aggression to apprehended a suspect to protect victims and other officers controversial here I do not know.

So long as Polanski is in charge I will never vote green.

    21. Whoknowsknows1962 on

Just to think, a few months ago people were complaining that he doesn’t get as much airtime as other party leaders. Are you happy now?

    22. It’s like he watched Corbyn be handed rope and choose to hang himself rather than shutting the fuck up and thought “that’s a brilliant strategy, I should copy it”

I mean I’m fine with it as he’s a fuckwit and half his parties policies are certifiably insane, but it amazes me that people can become the leader of national political parties with no idea of how to be pragmatic or keep their head down when they need to

    23. JoesIceCreamLover on

Bigger Boobies anyone ? For goodness sake the man is a complete weapon.

    24. Vivid_Employment8635 on

Jesus fucking Christ mate just drop it already. Nobody thinks this is a good look.

    25. Far_Excitement_1875 on

Both of these people are being idiotic and hurting their organisations.

    26. I do feel a sense of schadenfreude in the comments here. People have reheated their corbyn lines and applied them all to Zack. It seems very forced and I see all the right wingy people are very rattled. Good.

    27. homeinthecity on

I’m the victim here. They shouldn’t be allowed to respond. This is Police Brutality.

    28. Rough-Army-6424 on

It’s like their surge in the polls made him realise he needs to come up with serious policies and not just populist hot air. He’s panicked and made himself totally unelectable. Thank the lord.

    29. Chemical-Row-2921 on

Purdah is a thing. You aren’t meant to interfere in the electoral period.

You aren’t even meant to make big announcements.

Of course it doesn’t apply if someone’s running who might raise taxes for rich people, but there are a bunch of very clear rules about this.

If civil servants could respond to politicians pontificating it would be hard to maintain political neutrality and the appearance of it.

    30. beach-chicken10 on

They should let him talk more as he’s doing a fabulous job of self sabotage. How anyone can take this guy seriously or put him as an actual contender to lead the country is beyond me

    31. HolbrookPark on

Left wingers think implying election tampering is a pathetic attempt to undermine democracy so I’m
Sure they will condemn this claim and mock Polanski

    32. I disagree with Polanski’s views on the arrest.

I also disagree with the Police writing open letters to leaders of political parties.

The police are not above criticism, even if we disagree with it.

    33. Do_You_Pineapple_Bro on

Genuinely wonder how much further he can take this grift before someone does a fit and proper check on him.

Between hypnotits, „anti-semetic“ caricatures, and wanting to open the borders and let anyone and everyone live off the back of the taxpayer, I’m surprised he still thinks he’s going to get people turning out in droves…and that nobody higher up has said „fuck off, you’re too off your rocker for this line of work“

    34. I dont know who seriously looks at this guy, listens to what he says, and thinks this is the person to run the country.
