      “Hello. This is Galaxy Corporation.
We sincerely apologize for the inappropriate wording featured on the performance outfit worn by the artist at K-SPARK in Macau on May 2.

This incident has once again reminded us of the importance of cultural sensitivity and responsible review. We will thoroughly reassess and strengthen our internal review and verification processes, including styling and related internal processes, and move forward with a higher standard of global respect and responsibility.

We remain committed to approaching all artist-related activities with greater thoughtfulness and accountability, while ensuring that the diverse cultural backgrounds and values of our global fans will always be respected.

Once again, we sincerely apologize to everyone who was hurt or disappointed by this incident.
      Thank you.”

I didn’t know what happened, so I just looked it up and I was shocked when I saw what it said. As someone who speaks dutch natively, what he wore said “Ronny a horny [dutch n-word] boy“. They really should’ve checked the meaning before he wore it.

    3. he’s worn that shirt repeatedly, and now he apologizing? nah, he can go somewhere else. deleting his music as i type

    4. didn’t this guy also wore a black face years ago? travyon martin cosplay? or was that someone else???

Lmao once again with the classic PR statement only AFTER being called out. How many times will this keep happening in Kpop? Literally does no one learn their lesson in this industry?

    6. Ok_Mathematician262 on

yeah the front of the shirt is just as bad can’t hide behind language barrier here.

    7. He’s way too big that he knows he’ll get away with anything. Really sick of this guy to be honest.

it’s insane how many second chances everyone gives him that he doesn’t deserve. I’m not even black but it’s exhausting watching people like him do stuff like this when his whole thing is copying black people. It’s not like he’s a rookie and doesn’t know better. Very disappointing

He should apologize himself. Ugh this habit of grown ass idols hiding behind their companies annoys me so much. Grow up and take responsibilities for your actions yourself. Not everything needs to be a company statement.

Ntm, kiss of life literally got cancelled for mocking black culture. I really wish men like him would get the same treatment.

This isn’t GD’s first controversy involving antiblack imagery and while it’s not up to me whether or not this apology is accepted, it was absolutely warranted.

I don’t understand why he owns that shirt in the first place, I don’t even understand why the shirt exists at all because the front is just as offensive as the words on the back. And I really have to wonder how this is at least the second time he’s worn this without a single soul on his team noticing how absolutely awful it is. If at his big age GD somehow doesn’t know better, somebody on his team absolutely should. There’s really no excusing this.

    11. As a Dutch person I am shocked to see a racist slur in my language. Should be a hard lesson to always translate your wearables (picture on his top said enough in my opinion).

this is nothing to do with gd specifically but i hate how PR apologies are written so vaguely. “cultural sensitivity” “everyone that was hurt by ‘this incident.’ you know exactly why people are upset, as a bare minimum why can you just specify that the shirt was racist to BLACK people. The shirt said the n word, don’t boil it down to just inappropriate wording🤦🏾‍♀️

“Blah blah blah he didn’t know” I’m so fucking tired. One does not accidentally wind up in multiple racist and Nazi-adjacent controversies. These are purposeful decisions that he’s making because he is racist and/or ascribes to Nazi viewpoints. He didn’t know, is fucking five??? No he’s a nearly 40 year old man who has been a global star for 15 years.

Oh well, now that I knew to click on the post to read the comments, I’m not surprised the comments are babying him, playing down his actions and all saying he did nothing wrong, he’s done his best and to stop hating on him. I knew this was going to happen. I saw the first tweets about this incident and when people posted the front of the shirt, it was a real shock.

I started my kpop journey through Bigbang and 2NE1 and it’s honestly really disappointing to see what has happened with both groups over the years.

    15. It’s mindblowing how often this shit happens in kpop. It’s the most risk averse industry on the planet and then you still see some of them out there in n-word shirts or qanon shirts or nra hats. You’re a public figure, do 10 seconds of research on what you’re wearing before wearing it. This goes for some of the dumbass stylists too.

    16. Hopeful-Effort-4624 on

I am dutch, and this shirt is so crazy, what even more crazy is that this isnt the first time, there are so many incidents with him, and he gets away with it everytime.

    17. Alive-Pitch-9180 on

At what point does it stop being ignorance and starts becoming conscious choices? The front of the shirt is just as bad as the back. There’s no language barrier to hide behind now. If he couldn’t tell it was racist from the back,he could definitely tell from the front of the shirt. Plus, this isn’t even the first time he’s caught up in a racism controversy. It’s been going on since 2013,this guy has an extensive record of racism. He’s done blackface, cultural appropriation and said the n-word in the past. I highly doubt his intentions are pure at this point

    18. I mean, he hasn’t been subtle about his views for a long time? At some point you just call a spade a spade.

His album title and world tour, Übermensch, was literally just Nazi themed iconography but people were in full denial mode trying to defend him.

    19. Ambitious-Ear-3724 on

Dude who got a whole album and tour called „Ubermensch“ got something racist on his shirt? Color me shoked

    20. Koreans would be losing their mind if someone wore a shirt with a derogatory word for Koreans.

    21. i will never understand how people continue to worship the ground this man walks on after he’s proved on countless occasions over the span of two decades what a despicable human being he is and just how much he does not give a fuck.

i’m not black and i’m not going to try to speak on the black community’s behalf, but as an outsider i find it incredibly cowardly for the company to issue a generalised apology to “everyone who was hurt or disappointed” instead of he himself issuing an apology directed specifically towards the black community. i am not owed an apology here so why the fuck is this directed just as much towards me as it is to black folks?

this is absolutely disgusting and completely in-fucking-excusable.
