Make sure to lobby your MP (especially if a Liberal MP) if you’re not happy with the plan to privatize airports.
I did.
This seems like a terrible idea. I will be writing to my newly-Liberal MP.
If the liberals want to lower airfare they just have to lower the rent they charge the non-profit corporations that run our airports.
The land belongs to the federal government in most cases.
Privatization of Public Infrastructure ONLY works on a specific case by specific case basis. For example, the privatization of the national rail infrastructure in Japan turning it into the JR Railway Group worked out pretty well (however it still had some downsides). But I would never use that as rule of it working everywhere. In the UK, rail privatization fucking sucked.
And travelers have to go on an eight leg parlay – an Octopus, if you will – just to travel from TO to Winnipeg.
If you believe that it will make travel cheaper I have some ocean front properties to sell in Sacktoon
> Privatized airports means Canadians will pay less flying Air Canada out of Rogers Airport sponsored by Draft Kings
I know it’s satire immediately because it says we’ll pay less, not more.
Terminal 2 at Bet99.com International has great slot machines.
[I unironically believe privatizing airports would be a net benefit and result in lower airfares.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z_xLJvOjdM)
Well he came to sell assets, airports today, tomorrow will be Canada post and for grand finally will be hospitals
He is a banker! And he will use the slow economy as an excuse to sell
Beaverton rubbing salt in the wound
> „If there’s one thing Canadians know, it’s that they will never be gouged by companies like Loblaws, Bell, or Starlight Canadian Residential Real Estate,” Carney explained in front of a large graph that simply read “CANADA = $$$”.
Canada basically charges an unofficial tax on airfare with the current setup. It’s a shame the talk is about privatization vs questioning why the second biggest country on earth wants to make it more expensive to travel inside the country.
Heh. They missed the part where we’ll actually be paying more. Still, good take Beaverton.
If you thought flying was expensive…you haven’t seen nothing yet!
>Privatized airports means Canadians **will pay less** flying Air Canada out of Rogers Airport sponsored by Draft Kings
Definitely not how it will go down. When these „public utilities“ are privatized one of the two things happen. At best you might get worse service for same or restricted/controlled price. At worse, you will be no or worse service for ever higher price. Now there might be some introductory price at the beginning where you pay less for same but that’s not how they make money.
Then, here comes the kicker, the government will have to buy it back at a loss to the taxpayers – for a profit for the privateer – at some later date.
If youre not in the class who might be buying a literal airport, you should be against this.
Those are the only people who can benefit. The rest of us will get worse service at a higher price. Garunteed.
Conservatives selling the 407 Toll Route worked out so well
I couldn’t care less flying out of Tim Hortons airport if it means cheaper airfare.
Oh, not funny. Too real. :: double facepalm ::
Yes, it will be cheaper, part of the reason is the Draft Kings (or whatever company) sponsorship. Private airports will be able to make money just by having people at the airports. That will reduce flying costs.
Privatization of a monopoly and nation critical infrastructure always works out well, because something something the invisible hand. The Sovereign Wealth Fund, putting money aside to subsidize these things later.
