– Trump is continuing his attacks on US’ historic allies
– Undoubtedly also a continuance of Trump’s / Republicans’ attacks on NATO
– It’s another sign of the reshaping of the world order.

US has around 40,000 troops in Germany currently, so this is more just for show. Something Trump can parrot around as „punishing Germany“ without actually changing much.
But i’m sure those 5k troops and their families will just *love* the suprise of being told to pack up their things to leave

ok, are we so confused by Trump’s disinformation campaign that we don’t see how insane this is … a President that would put NATO at risk because someone said something mean.

This is just a symbolic move. Even though 12.5% of the troops in Germany isn’t an insignificant amount they’ll probably be either troops that aren’t really necessary in Germany, they’ll be redeployed somewhere else in Europe or they’ll remain if Trump flip flops. I’m am surprised though that Germany was chosen instead of Spain considering how vocal the Spanish PM has been. Spain is probably next.
One thing I don’t understand is the European leaders that preach about how a strong transatlantic partnership is needed between the US and European nations. Then make very poor comments that they know will 100% upset Trump. Saying Iran is embarrassing the US was just completely unnecessary and not a smart comment. Even if it’s true, everybody knows Trump has a temper and takes every slight personally. Especially since he’s already made the European nations a target. Europe can move towards independence from US protection and at the same time limit antagonizing Trump in the meantime.
I am curious to see how European leaders react. Trump finally backed up a threat against NATO. Will European leaders continue making comments that will bother Trump or will they start watching what they say?
