Is this the marketing campaign? It’s got me interested
Ben Kingsley is in his for the paycheck phase.
I can’t wait for next months headline:
“Anthony Mackie’s Desert Warrior is a sleeper hit according to streaming numbers…”
In this day, using movie theater ticket sales as a metric for success/failure is akin to if Apple used how many Amish folks are buying the new iPhone.
Old blood money Mackie.
Critics are calling it everything from Shit to Fucking Shit.
It looks like something my dad would get from Redbox and say was pretty good.
It’s easy to say Anthony Mackie doesn’t have leading man charisma or that this failed because everyone hates Saudi funded stuff. But the reality is that they literally never marketed it. People have to know about things before spending money on things.
It’s gotten trashed by critics, but it’s got a 61 on RT. So I feel like it would have been mildly accepted on streaming with a little advertising if it were there.
When is Saudi Arabia gonna accept that we ain’t buying the propaganda?
Looked like garbage in the trailer
When I hear Saudi money is wasted on yet another ill advised project trying to buy their way into Western culture, I feel happier
Why didn’t Anthony Mackie lecture the director and producers and tell them to simply do better?
Waterworld rises again!
Dude probably walked with a cool 20 mill in untaxed crypto….
How is the movie supposed to make money when the distributor isn’t marketing the movie? I’m just now hearing about the movie. If you don’t market the film, it’s DOA at the box office.
Money laundering
Need to move $150m of Russian/Chinese/drug money – ah, a film! Perfect!
‘Yes, we spent $10m on…err…location scouts! Prove we didn’t!’
Ain’t going to market it, you’ve already done what’s needed.
Related, Disney engages in epic levels of dodgy accounting to farm tax breaks.
‘Film in the UK and get 20% back, eh? Well, stick every cost you can think of onto a film or show. Especially my private jet! The Acolyte? Sure, now it ‘cost’ $300m!

Im definitely watching this when it comes to streaming, which i assume will be pretty quick lol. Its got me intrigued.
Make that money Mackie.
He could have stayed here in America and taken a group of Gravy Seals to Golden Corral and name the movie Dessert Warriors.
Nobody even knew this movie existed before these stories about how badly it flopped started coming out so yeah that may have had something to do with it. Would even matter if the movie was good or not with how little presence it’s had.
I am convinced this movie was some money laundering or tax write-off scheme. The lack of marketing has to be purposeful.
I’m always confused when they make it the actors movie when it does badly. I’m sure more people were involved than just Anthony Mackie.
Anthony Mackie has always reminded me of the sneaky kid in grade school who reminded the teacher when she didn’t assign homework.
Captian america is in a movie thats funded by the Saudis. Most 2026 sentence ive ever said
This guy’s a desert warrior? His real name’s Clarence
Maybe continuously selling out to the Saudi’s isn’t a great move?
Can we maybe stop trying to make him a leading man? Hes not. Hes fine in an ensemble or a side character but hes not a leading star.
It’s almost like Mackie has no charisma and was only able to play off Chris Evans
I’ve yet to see a movie with Mackie in it that I liked. I don’t know what it is.
How is this on Anthony Mackie? He’s an actor in a movie, not the writer, director, studio or producer.
I literally only heard about this film yesterday. So, someone should probably be fired.
This is marketing, because it’s one of those films I’d heard about but had no idea it had been released. There was no building of buzz, no structured campaign I could see (maybe I’m not the target audience) and other than a clip or two on social media that looked like the film was releasing in months, not was already in theaters…nothing.
Advertising it may have helped a bit…
As someone who is saudi, I don’t know what the fuck they were even doing with this movie, And i’m beyond disappointed this is what we ended up with, It reflects on all of us for more reasons than one, Genuinely makes me depressed seeing this kind of stuff about my country 24/7, we have the money but not the direction or anything else, THE SAME STUDIO HAS CREATED ACTUALLY GOOD LOCAL WORKS SUCH AS RASHASH AND YET THEY DONT TRANSLATE THAT TO ANYTHING INTERNATIONAL GEG
