Call me biased or delusional or whatever, but I kind of don’t care at all what people think is happening.
Every single news article I’ve seen has been people giving their opinion, but these news articles are just as likely to cause a pessimistic outlook as the pessimistic outlook is to cause more of these news articles.
Is Canada doing well? I have no idea, there are a dozen international issues causing strain on everything so I’m not sure we would be able to tell if Canada was making good economic choices or not, but I sure as hell don’t care what uneducated random people think about it. We have already seen that the majority of Canadians make terrible financial decisions with their own finances anyways, and a big chunk of the governments job is to babysit people enough that most of them don’t end up on the street (despite their stupidest efforts).
Also, fuck off with these corporate CEOs and business leaders who want to complain about everything and have opinions. The majority of the time they are arguing for more of the things that are creating the problems (unchecked privatization, more foreign slave labour, higher unemployment, lower wages, less regulatory oversight, etc). You’ve got two groups in a room both upset at what is happening, and yet they are asking for completely opposite things.
I just would rather actual financial experts weigh in, instead of being spammed with all these low effort articles telling me to be upset because people are upset. Just because everyone can have an opinion now that social media gives anyone an outlet, it doesn’t mean I care in the slightest what 99% of people’s opinions are if they don’t have any credible experience/expertise with the subject.

100 to 200B for a HSR from Quebec to TO instead of
– An east west energy corridor, allowing energy tramission across the country, which would allow for solar, wind and nuclear power plants anywhere along the corridor.
– LNG expansion and export terminal on the east coast.
– Snail rail to ring of fire with accompanying nuclear power plant to power rare earth mineral mines.
– New refinery in Alberta so we’re not so reliant on crude exports and allow for domestic use of our own natural resources.

Clearly Canadians are upset with the economy, but I think the majority won’t be laying the blame at Carney’s feet. They’d be looking south to assign blame.

The majority of Canadians think that oil companies like Petro Canada decide the price of gasoline and grocery retailers like Loblaws decide the price of food. They also think that when prices go up, that’s inflation, but when their wages go up, it’s because they’re just really good workers that deserve it.
Economic illiteracy is the default.

„Majority of Canadians“. The article says they surveyed 1,511 people. Canada has a population of roughly 41,500,000, so only a few hundred answered from each province (assuming no foreign interference).

Garbage opinion piece articles are exactly that garbage opinions. A majority of Canadians are also not economic majors with PhD‘s in quant finance , macro economics, or anything else like that so what the hell do stupid opinion polls actually prove. ? Nothing beyond confirmation bias for people who are already tending to think we suck or liberals bad or whatever it is the hell they already think.

Yeah, not surprised. Trudeau covered up economic malaise through unhinged immigration.
Everyone got poorer, productivity got worse and housing got more expensive. Are Canadians supposed to be ok with that?

That’s because it is.
We are not investing in improving Canadian domestic production, and we aren’t addressing affordability for younger Canadians. So we’re still dependant on international trade, only this time we’re re-negotiating without any specific leverage (and pissing off our biggest export market).
I don’t know or care whether any other politician would have done better or worse. I want to know when this government is going to do anything for Canadians directly, rather than corporate interests and the same old tired trade deals that got into this vulnerable mess in the first place.

Perhaps next election they can remember all that they felt has gone wrong and actually pin the blame on the right party.

Of course it’s in the wrong track. Economic stability isn’t like a light switch you can flick on or off. It takes years if not decades to set up the infrastructure to get an economy to move in the right direction.

So far nothings gotten better under Carney, and looking ahead, there are no big projects within the next 2 to 3 years that will make it better. I remember when Carney was talking big about removing interprovincial trade restrictions, nothing on that front. Any Interprovincial economic mega projects, nope, instead have a multi-billion-dollar railroad.
Look at the news every day, hoping for that big Canadian economic restructuring. And there’s always nothing.

The majority of Canadians don’t realize price hikes result from exposure to the global market. For example as soon as you start to export something like oil, that price is tied to what other corporations are willing to pay for it and what consumers in other countries see at the pumps.
Also Canadians seem to expect instant results regarding the economy and things of that magnitude do not change over night.

I can’t wait for the inevitable decision that Canadians make where we swap from one set of neo-liberals who trust in the market to do the right thing (the Liberal Party) to another set of neo-liberals who trust in the market to do the right thing (the Conservative Party).
This is a neo-Liberal problem. It cannot be solved by a neo-Liberal. But Canada can only flip flop between the Liberals and Conservatives. We need to seriously consider voting for progressives that actually want to solve these problems. AND accept that it takes time, it’s undoing a gordian knot of slavish devotion to corporations.
