we need our own region, wv-md-dc-va-de region that always excludes pa and nj, us marylanders are tired of being regionless and we are starting the extended dmv!

Here to celebrate the people voting Washington as the northeast. It’s so laughable and yet, at the same time, I also totally get it.

Who are these ppl in Washington saying northeast? Are they confusing with northwest or confusing their state with DC? Also Idaho and Rockies midwest? And AZ the south? South is very different from “southwest”

    4. „West“ isn’t really a region. There’s West Coast, Southwest, Pacific Northwest, and the Mountain states.

An Appalachian and Rocky Mountains region would go a long way for the none of these states.

    6. I love the ~10% people who confused NE & NW when choosing for Washington. Probably thinking PNW.

I was going to do the in-depth one but it is literally over 3,000 check boxes. A lot of the categories are not super relevant on the state level, like Palouse which is a region that only spans a very small portion of WA and ID. You’d probably get more responses on the in-depth survey if it wasn’t an hour long.

Apparently Midwest was coined when people started moving to the west, but I hate that word. The West is everything left of the dividing line. So Midwest would be the middle of that. Montana to new mexico.

    9. Was „Great Plains“ not an option for the middle bunches? Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Iowa, Dakotas? I never know what people mean when they said midwest. For some, that’s Ohio, for others, that’s Kansas and Nebraska, but as a Kansas, we are plains states.

    10. The idea that w Virginia is the south is bonkers.

The entire reason there is a West Virginia is because they split off from Virginia during the civil war specifically so they wouldn’t be part of the Confederate south.

What the fuck is up with the whole “Arkansas is the Midwest” thing ? I have only ever seen it on Reddit but I’ve seen it like 5 times now. I don’t get it at all. It has absolutely zero Midwest vibe

    12. I’d love if other countries could come up with these poll maps too, but the user-base on the sub is going to limit things.

Also, it’ll be lovely to see more comments bitching about their subregion not being here and them lot liking their larger region.

Do it by counties because in some states different sides of the state associate themselves with different regions

Good grief, just because Maryland and Delaware are physically south of millions of New Englanders they think that they’re somehow culturally „Southern“ as Americans know the term? Maybe super far west Maryland, I’ll give you that, but that is crazy…

    15. People who think Idaho or Utah is in the Midwest should have their ability to vote revoked.

Whose dumb mind Decided that Wisconsin is not Midwest? I see Wisconsin is a Lighter shade of Purple than every one of its neighbors besides Michigan ofc.

    17. JonwardSnowden on

Am I seeing this right? More people think Kansas is midwest than missouri????

Why the hell are the Great Plains and the Rockies missing from this map
