Die erste Grafik zeigt die Militärausgaben pro Kopf, wobei kleinere Länder mit hohem Einkommen wie Katar, Israel, Norwegen und die Vereinigten Staaten sehr weit oben liegen. Die zweite Grafik zeigt die BIP-Belastung, wobei sich das Bild ändert: Die Ukraine sticht dramatisch hervor, weil die Militärausgaben einen außergewöhnlich großen Anteil ihrer Wirtschaft ausmachen.
Militärausgaben können sehr unterschiedlich aussehen, je nachdem, ob wir sie an der Bevölkerungsbelastung oder an der wirtschaftlichen Belastung messen. Die Pro-Kopf-Ausgaben erfassen, wie viel im Verhältnis zur Einwohnerzahl ausgegeben wird, während die Ausgaben als Anteil am BIP erfassen, wie viel nationale Wirtschaftsleistung in die Verteidigung fließt.

Surprised to see Qatar so high up the % of GDP list. I assume most of it goes towards their air force?

Why did you leave out the simplest data, how much each country is spending on military?
China’s being so low is surprising, maybe because their costs to manufacture goods and pay troops must be much lower

Yes, but a massive chunk of Israel‘s cost of military is floated by the U.S. taxpayer! Israel is a leech!
Surprised at Norway’s position on the per capita chart.
The other included countries either are actively involved in conflict (assuming the data is current, as I don’t see a date anywhere), or have significant potential conflict with a notable counterpart.
Is that the reason for Norway’s place on the chart, or some other reason?
Just be mindful that for some countries, looking at you russia, almost half of the spending is hidden in loans issued by private banks, made out to defense companies. These don’t appear as government spending because the gov only buys the drone but the capital expenditure to build the factory which builds the drone is also subsidised by the state. So for russia you can easily double that number.
It is high time China actually met their NATO obligations!!
