China sent 10 military aircraft and 11 naval vessels near Taiwan, with 9 planes crossing the sensitive median line into Taiwan’s air defense zone. This follows a similar escalation just a day earlier, when Taiwan reported 22 Chinese aircraft and 9 ships near its waters.
Taiwan issues has global implications and far more consequential than Iran. If Taiwan is occupied by authoritarian countries, the whole semi conductor supply chains to the free countries will be severely limited, affecting AI and computing capabilities. South Korea and Japan with major energy and shipping lanes near Taiwan will be threatened, and they will be forced into submission or even give up democracy. The world will eventually be forced to graduately shift to censorship, deception and hirerachy based authoritarian society.
If there is a war the US must do and worth fighting for, it is definitely Taiwan.
Until we see some serious troop and equipment movements to assembly areas near the shore, it’s just a normal Wednesday, nothing special.
EDIT: which is exactly what I was advocating for China to do a few weeks ago, to put pressure on the US when it was at its weakest.
>Rising Tensions:
This may not be true, because while Taiwan releases daily flight information, it never releases ship data. It’s difficult to determine if it’s escalating.
This month (May 19), the Legislature will decide whether to impeach the current president. This is the first time in Taiwan’s history, and with a very high level of public support for it.
I think this is a political thing.
