Never ever seen this before by a politician /president ect Well done sir

  2. Such a beautiful gesture. He may be the last good politician this country ever has. Although it sickens me to think his goodwill will be pissed up the wall by the boyos on the dáil. It’ll probably pay for a broom closet in the childrens hospital.

Well that’s unexpected and nice. it does show how insanely well remunerated this ceremonial role is.

While it is a great gesture I hope it doesnt become the expectation, we want people who need the salary to be able to run also, and not just people who can afford to hand it back.

We should take that 2.6m and build a statue of him or a little garden area in the city for him when he dies

  6. It’s the right way to do it too. Refusing to accept the salary which came with another candidate in that last election creates a situation where only the wealthy who can afford to have no salary for years can run for president.

Accepting it, saying nothing and then paying it back after the fact when you are not doing it as a gesture to look for votes or anything is much better.

See this is why anyone that’s ever met him fell in love with him! I met him and he talked to me like a normal person should. He’s the nicest guy I’ve ever met. Money does not motivate him and the only downside to Michael D is the fact he’s mortal.

Anyone know where this money will actually end up? Will it just get wasted by reckless government spending or does anyone actually benefit from it?

Not to be the negative one, this is obviosuly a very admirable and noble thing to do, no surprise by Michael D

Delighted to hear that’s a couple more bike sheds and 1 set of stairs in a park

In the early 2000s my partner and his friends were students, they were carrying their furniture down the road from their old house to their new ones. Michael D stopped in his car to help them, stayed as long as he could, and offered to leave them the car if they wanted it while he went wherever he was going.
