  1. > “I knew it was going to be a hit,” Streep told host Jenna Bush Hager (who herself has a cameo in “The Devil Wears Prada 2”). “I read the script — the script was great. They called me up, and they made an offer, and I said ‘No. I’m not going to do it.’” Streep said she foresaw the film’s success — and wanted to be paid accordingly. “I wanted to see if I doubled my ask, and they went right away and said ‘Sure.’”

    > Recalling the decision, Streep said, “I’m 56 years [old] — it took me this long to understand that I could do that! I was sure of it. I was sure it would be a hit. And they needed me, I felt. And I wanted it, but if they didn’t want to do that, I was okay. Because I’m old — I’m 56, I was ready to retire.”

I’d pay to watch Meryl in a hessian sack reading the phonebook. Can’t wait to see DWP2!

Smart. It’s perfect casting. Think about any other great actress in her age range and none of them would have worked in this role. The key with Streep is she really added humanity to a character that would have been a complete villain in any other actresses hands. I wish they tripled her salary.

Bet Chris Pratt doesn’t have to do this kind of pain in the ass shit to get the right payday

  5. Yeah, I recall she was offered 2 million US dollars and she asked for double later

Uh….56? She meant 76? Or when the book came out in 2003?

If this is really her swan song, would love to see her do something with more substance, she can do anything.

Loved the book…the author’s writing beat the pants off the movie’s dialogue. And the movie couldn’t recreate the author’s thoughts, which were a scream.

She didn’t stick to that retirement plan very well. She’s had a pretty amazing run of movies and even tv shows in the last 2 decades.
The first Devil Wears Prada really showed off her skill in comedic/less dramatic roles.

  9. I read that as her rejecting ‘Devil’s Rejects’ and a much different picture came to mind.

The podcast what went wrong just did an episode about this movie. They said she wanted to try a fun roll after doing dramatic movies. She was almost passed over because they thought had doubts she could be funny.

Who would have ever thought ai would replace the movie star. Well it’s here. RIP Hollywood.
They never should have been paid so much anyway. The era of the professional adult pretenders is coming to an end finally.
