This is disgraceful, for Japan to even be protesting this is fucking shameful and absurd. The denial is DEEP here in Japan and toxic as fuck.

People can can hate on San Francisco all they want, but at least they didn’t bow down to these cry bullies.

Aw man why would you bow to the bully? They’re not doing ANYTHING to remember their bad past, that’s why others HAVE to do it, else it will be erased. I’m not saying every Japanese person today needs to feel bad or apologize, but don’t protest when people wanna remember being victimized by your ancestors. It’s not your place and you look like an insane fool.

  4. Are the people here idiots who do not know history? In 2015, the governments of both South Korea and Japan agreed that this issue was resolved finally and irreversibly. Even the South Korean government officially calls them comfort women instead of sex slaves, but it seems the BBC also wants to spread malicious propaganda.

What the article fails to mention was that the council put it to local residents – 56% opposed, 42% supported and 2% were unsure. That’s a pretty resounding no.

Side note: some people have suggested that Japanese New Zealanders should’ve been prevented from having their say in the submission process – regardless of whether they’re rate payers. I find this troubling for all the obvious reasons.

Oh no, only we get to commemorate WWII. We’re the true victims. (pulls out the flame from the atomic bombing memorial). /s

  7. At this moment, this isn’t just about korea and koreans. It’s about war and how women are treated during wars – not disregarding men’s sacrifices. This is literally still happening right now in many middle eastern and african countries. Japan is once again desperately trying to cover up its history, and still New zealand is a real loser here.

There are a lot of Kiwis who now know about comfort women because of this. Textbook Streisand effect.
