  1. Idk I feel like this is supposed to be your security’s job. I understand the frustration but get staff to handle it instead of ruining the show for everybody else who paid to see you.

Nothing awkward about making sure the rules of the venue and show are being followed. Filming is banned. It’s not a suggestion.

  3. Who the hell goes to watch theatre to record? Like what are you even going to do with that video?

The first rule of secretly filming a musical is to not bother the actors or get caught. Like we all know it happens, even the actors know it happens but like don’t disrupt the show in any way. Maybe don’t film but I also know that it’s not gonna stop.

Honestly… I don’t hate it. People need to learn theater etiquette. Preferably before they go to a show. Sounds like this guy learned during. The attachment to phones is out of control. Even as a child I was taught when going to a theater you use the bathroom before and after not during, you don’t talk and you don’t use a phone or camera. It’s been like this forever- you’re not entitled to whip out your phone and record everything despite how attached to them society has become.

  6. During one performance of Dracula she stopped 10 mins into act 2 and made the entire stage crew reset everything because she flubbed a few lines.

It’s absolutely unprofessional behaviour, so this story doesn’t surprise me at all.

Why have I been hearing so much about her lately? Are these articles posted about her for chud reactions?

I feel like the cast from Wicked just do shit to stay in the headlines

She made staff cry at a show last year in my area. She forced them to put up dividers in the hallways just so working crew at the facility wouldn’t look at her. She also almost didn’t play because the AC was not right. Nightmare!

I get why everyone is over here but this seems reasonable to me. I could see a lot of performers doing this.

Audience theatre etiquette has been in the absolute gutter (people singing along at musicals, getting drunk, throwing things on stage, recording). So I’m actually supportive of her walking off. I wouldn’t mind if more of audience member bad behavior was called out. Maybe that would actually change things.

I’ve never heard or seen a good thing about her, she seems insufferable to be around.

She is making it really hard to defend her ugh. I saw her in the color purple twice and it changed my life. She is a generational talent but she really needs to chill the fuck out and get a better PR team.

I’m not that big a fan of hers but I’m not going to sit here while y’all pile on this woman because none of you know how to behave in a theater. Seriously filming a live theater performance is not some new trespass: you simply don’t to it.

I don’t know….The British press seems to relish in writing negative articles about Cynthia. She recently did a large symphony tour around the USA. My local orchestra played a few shows in my city with her. I know many people in the symphony and they all had nothing but niceties to say about her. The show was brought together with only a couple of rehearsals and no issues. I’d have heard about it if she was being a Diva. Plus after all the shows she made a really gracious effort to meet fans and sign autographs. This was right after the first wicked movie was released.

She seems insufferable. Imagine wasting everyone’s time like that. She is a performer, her job is to perform. And she’s making a ridiculous amount of money to do so. Do your job.

I mean, what would you do if you found out you were staring down the barrel of a camera?!?

  18. Alert_Reindeer_6574 on

I understand that this person violated a rule regarding recording. But she seems like she is absolutely insufferable.

  19. pizzabirthrite on

I totally get it, it would be so distracting with a giant mechanical film camera in the audience. If they were recording with a cell phone or something she would definitely be in the wrong.

Cynthia Erivo has had her time in the limelight, she needs to go away now.

They should just lock up the phones tbh. It’s done at comedy clubs.

  22. Not even close to the craziest thing an actor has done to a show/audience member for breaking the rules…I get people don’t like her but this is silly.

  23. sqwirlmasta on

She’s a complete asshole. I’ve heard she stops shows frequently when she flubs a line.

  24. Specialist-Neck-7810 on

I’m getting kinda sick of her shit. Every thing I hear about her just furthers my opinion that she’s not a good person.

  25. veryowngarden on

i truly have no opinion or her because it seems like there’s this weird, concerted media attempt to constantly make her look insufferable, which makes me question the motive

  26. spookysadghoul on

Its shitty to record a live performance and not enjoy it in the moment, but storming off and not finishing the performance is an interesting choice

Personally this is worse to me than everyone freaking out over Megan.

Admittedly, i know very little about her, and only see the headlines or interview/red carpet clips everyone else sees.

But i gotta say, based on what i DO know/see of her, Cynthia Erivo just comes off as just like…a frail person? She always seems one loud noise or one wrong question away from crying or hiding behind a chair or leaving the room in disgust. She just seems to take herself so very, very, unnecessarily seriously, even at the cost of her own public image, or her professional integrity, or anyone else’s comfort. „Self-centered“ in the most clinical, neutral way possible; like she literally only cares about how she’s personally feeling in the moment, and nothing else matters.
