I thought that the agreements with the remaining Balkan states will come into existence in july?

A few carriers in the EU countries offer the same „roam like at home“ also for the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

  3. As soon as you cross the swiss border, the legendary roaming man will come personally and mug you at gunpoint.

I discovered really fast my mistake in Switzerland before even leaving the airport.

Does anyone really ‘roam like at home’ though. I get unlimited data on my plan per month. Yet once I cross a border that gets capped at like 20gb.

Why are roaming charges even a thing in 2026? Is sending mobile phone network signals really that expensive still?

For your info, it also still works for some EU citizens travelling to the UK (depending on the operators). I go there at least once if not twice a month, never had a roaming fee. It was a pledge by my telecom operator.

I spent an embarrassingly long time thinking about what 500N means…

Having a Hungarian mobile subscription, I can roam at home in the UK as well

  10. Not entirely true. Even though I have an unlimited data plan at home, the carrier has a monthly limit if I use it in any other country in the EU.

  11. I was really surprised during recent trip to Iceland with stopover at Zurich airport, that the *expanisve* call and data rates were literally in the middle of Europe, however same as at home in the middle of cold ocean…

Fun fact, Turkey was approached by the EU to be included in this initiative but the government refused the invitation.

Likely done in an effort to protect the telecom giants profits as they charge absurd rates for anything here, and a roaming system like this would force them to actually have competitive pricing to match other states.

  13. I’ve got a French mobile plan and travel in Germany. But I can’t call german numbers.

I’m back in France. I still can’t call german numbers.

I should be able to call every European numbers from any European country at no extra free with no restrictions from my carrier.

My carrier has roaming in 100 countries including the all of the EU, UK, US, Canada, most of south america, China etc.
I stopped thinking about roaming 10-15 years ago.

Of all Belgian phone network providers, Digi is currently the only one that doesn’t try to rob you when you go outside the blue area.

Contrary to the map, this does not apply to Northern Cyprus. I know this to my cost.

Tiny Andorra being gray here is important – learnt that the hard way!

as someone who travels a lot throughout europe, this change has been amazing

  19. What’s Switzerlands problem btw? Why aren’t they joining the party? No, not being a EU member shouldn’t be a reason at all.

UK no? Last year I was on holiday in the UK and could use my data as usual, did they change anything?

  21. Liechtenstein only works in theory. In practice your stupid phone will connect to the Swiss network and you’ll have to pay a fortune. Don’t ask me how I know
