Hallo zusammen!

    1. Oh that’s cool. Thanks for sharing!
I already had a license and had been driving for nearly a decade now. Do you have any idea what’s the process gonna be like for me to just take the test immediately? (I don’t have my previous driving license, and it’ll be more troublesome for me to have it sent and notarized from the embassy *for those who are wondering*)

I drove for 1000+ hours before I moved to Korea in my early 20s. Didn’t drive again for a decade and went into these exams so cocky. I waisted so much time failing the course exam because of a weird translation and then panicking on the road test. I would say take a lesson or two if you are in a similar situation as me.

I’ve been driving large tow-trucks and heavy equipment since I was 13 until about 23 in rural Tennessee. I’m a skilled driver. I have lived in Korea since I was 25 and I’m 43 now. I got my drivers license around 35 I think. It took me over 20 tries! It was absolute hell. Sure I’m a little dense I guess, but that test is bananas!
      Written test? First time pass.
Closed road test? So many instant failures! I had zero English support, but that’s on me. I had a newborn at the time and life was absolute hell to say the least. Waking up early every week to travel an hour by taxi just to fail that damned test again.
Then after I passed that, the real road test automatically failed me several times as well and that one had a mandatory 14 days or so between attempts. Jesus what a nightmare it was!

Now I’ve been driving for 10 years or so and it’s a pretty nice country to drive in all things considered. Only accidents were my wife backing into a pole or scratching the side of the car. Why didn’t she fail a hundred times like me?
That Asian style memorization testing just didn’t click with me at all.

I took the Korean driving exam here. It was what the UK call a crash course.

600k won (10 years ago), 4 hours per day for 5 days then you drive.

Day 1 and 2 – theory and exam
Day 3 and 4 – practice with a driver on the closed course, then closed course exam.
Day 5 – practice with driver on outside course, then exam.

Both driving exams were less than 10 minutes long. My outside course was exit the car park, turn right, drive 2km, turn right, u turn in alleyway, drive 2km back, exit car without parking.

      License on Friday!

    5. 1 month? this is why Korean traffic is full of crazy drivers who dont know how to use blinkers lol

    6. That’s cool.

Years ago, I exchanged my Canadian license for a Korean one. I had to do an eye sight test which was only available in Korean (not hard – they just showed silhouette pictures of common things like a strawberry or airplane). When they took my picture, the lady photoshopped my picture lol

    7. Having driven for several years in my home country, decided I wanted a license here. My country we drive on opposite side of the road. Also hadn’t driven for 3 years at that point.

Decided on a Sunday night. Studied that night and wrote my test on Monday. Went back Tuesday morning, did the yard test. That same Tuesday afternoon did the road test.

      Start to finish 3 days.

    8. Wow, thats cheap. Thats about 480-600€.

A Driving licence in Berlin, Germany is at the Moment around 3500-4500€. With driving lessons and stuff. Thats roughly 5.8 to 7.5 Million Won!

Girlie I got mine in 2 weeks 😎 3 years ago and no accident to my name lol

    10. I’m also an international student and I am indeed planning to learn driving and get license how much would it cost overall since I don’t know anything about driving and has never drove a car. I live around Anyang. Thank you.

    11. Quite frankly, this is exactly why Korean roads are a total mess. They just hand you a license once you show the bare minimum competence, and let you figure it out on the road, so there are zero shared driving rules or etiquette. I’d strongly recommend taking driving lessons before you actually start driving out on the road.

Congrats. Took me 3 attempt of driving course test and 2 attempt of road test to get DL.
