The PC majority just rammed Bill 97 through recently and it is a blatant hit to the Rule of Law. If you have been following the Greenbelt phone log case you know exactly why they are doing this.

The reality of the bill is that they are rewriting FOI laws all the way back to 1988. This is not about modernization. It is specifically designed to kill current court cases and erase the public’s right to see past records. Minister offices are now effectively exempt from FOI so if government business is done on a personal device or WhatsApp it is now legally invisible.

This is a clear shot at Section 2(b) and Section 7 of the Charter. A majority government should not be allowed to legislatively undo a court order for transparency just because the evidence is inconvenient.

The government pushed this through on April 23 by skipping committee hearings to get it done before the courts could force the Premier to hand over his records. Without transparency accountability is just a suggestion.

  2. Another bill that probably is going to be challenged in the courts. Question is, how long will it take to get challenged?

Another one of life’s simple pleasures ruined by meddling bureaucracy.   Amazing how fast this world is moving away from honesty.

With the declining polls for Ford, have to wonder if this is the arrogance of them thinking no one cares despite the polls showing otherwise especially for the plane controversy.

  5. Charter states its a democratic right that representatives cant govern in secret and we are entitled to ask question about what there governing. started law and ethics and it states that. So how can Ford do it?

Oversight is a pesky inconvenience. It’s best that they brush that aside. Oh, and they know that your powerless to do anything. Most of us don’t even vote or get up off the couch.
