    1. Gotta love capitalism.

End stage monopoly when that one annoying fecker has 3 houses on Mayfair.

    2. Oh so it turns out all the garages are just ramping up prices, what a surprise.

Edit – Jesus Christ people get so mad. When I flippantly said garages I meant all the different oil suppliers to the garages. Any one of them could have stayed at the same profit level to leave the pump prices lower, but they all chose to raise prices and hence profits.

      Predictable as a clock.

Now the banks and everyone else can have a big pay day too as they increase our mortgage rates and grocery prices as a result of this inflation.

    4. Southern_Shirt8487 on

Just remind people of this when they bang on about opening up new north sea oil yeah? The profits are for them, not you plebs 🤦‍♂️

    5. Unusual_Sherbert2671 on

Just like during covid, it’s all bollocks, they just taking the piss with the prices

    6. Oil companies thrive off war. Look at trump and Venezuela – openly admitting they are taking oil. Our companies are no different. The ceos glee and rub their hands at the notion of people dying in war.

    7. FrostingGrand1413 on

Hey, remember that time we called our buddies in the US to come help is coup the fledging democracy of Iran because the Mossadegh government was trying to nationalise the Anglo-Iranian oil company?

      Guess what they rebranded to!

    8. Signal_Profession_83 on

So how have they doubled their already ridiculous profits if they haven’t been exploiting people?

    9. lol all the people claiming „they’re raising prices because that’s how fuel economics works!!!!!!“

Pro-capitalism feudal serf sycophants never change.

    10. NewPower_Soul on

I would’ve thought higher prices meant that any shortage of oil would be offset by the higher price? But, no.. they’re just price gouging.

    11. Personal-Cucumber-49 on

Theres no profit it peace boys, so we’re gunna fight some more!

    12. BP garages are always consistently about 10-15p per litre more expensive than other garages.

      I’ll always actively avoid them.

    13. That’s what I couldn’t understand, if there was a shortage why was petrol not rationed by the government instead of prices increasing. It’s like during covid oil companies had record profits. So no matter what happens they win? Catastrophes are good business

    14. Important_Ruin on

Was only matter of time before the oil companies started announcing massive profits. Expect the same from Shell etc in coming weeks.

      Windfall tax again please.

    15. If (when) the war goes on for several months longer we’ll be looking at *actual shortages -* you can bet the firms won’t be making big profits when the gov’t has to order restrictions, because otherwise the whole machinery that keeps society moving dies. Making hay while the sun shines.

      Thanks, Don.

Don’t forget the government raking it in because of increased fuel and VAT duty…👍

    17. „No mistakes, just happy little accidents..“

Sick of being exploited by these bastards.

    18. This is what we should be getting angry at, corps making massive profits and blaming it on wars etc. Not small boats or whatever the human sewer spouts out

    19. Shock as when oil prices rise, oil producers make more money. Next up, rain is wet – we find out why.

    20. TemporaryAbrocoma679 on

We’re being taken for absolute mugs and there’s nothing we can do about it 😂

    21. Flipidyflapflop on

The BP defence squad is out in full force I see. How does BP suddebly double it’s PROFIT if they are not price gouging?

Our government should be doing more to combat this but they don’t. We’re are all plebs ripe for the milking in thair eyes.

    22. Dry-Age-7829 on

Fuck the government and fuck capitalism. Why are we still paying so much tax on fuel? Why aren’t we rioting? I’ve had enough of being shafted constantly.

    23. Shot_Fishing_4282 on

Predictable news, which will be followed by a predictable response from the public – absolutely nothing.

    24. But.. if the PROFITS doubled then surely they’re just saying „well we needed to raise prices a bit to match costs but actually we’ve jacked the prices through the roof“ otherwise profits would remain the same, with fuel costing a little more??

    25. Its always clear as day Aint it, its always about profit and sadly never about anything else. The levels of greed is insane in this world

    26. BP was the Anglo-Persian Oil Company before the rebrand.
Britain literally owned Iran’s oil from 1908 until Mosaddegh nationalized it in ’51, which is exactly why the CIA and MI6 ran the ’53 coup to put the Shah back in.
That same imperial Britain issued the Balfour Declaration in 1917 backing a Jewish homeland in Palestine, and one underrated reason was strategic: a friendly state there protected the Suez route and the pipelines pumping Persian oil to the Royal Navy. Israel and BP were laid down by the same hand for the same reason, guard the flow, hold the region. A century later, BP doubles its profits on another Iran war. The thread is a pipeline.

10 Feb: BP steps up cost cutting as profits slide.

Oskar Schindler: In every business I tried, I can see now, it wasn’t me that failed. Something was missing. Even if I’d known what it was, there’s nothing I could have done about it because you can’t create this thing. And it makes all the difference in the world between success and failure.
      Emilie Schindler: Luck?
      Oskar Schindler: War.

    29. Pheasant_Plucker84 on

Just imagine just once the government told these companies that they’re going to have to take less profits, just once!

    30. Transasaurus-Hex on

Heavens forbid that they forgo some of those profits to help their fellow mankind.

      Capitalism is a scourge.

    31. Wild-Individual6876 on

We’re literally being manipulated by a few very wealthy people. Fucking joke

    32. Nobody here seems to understand how supply and demand works.

Why wouldn’t their profit increase? It doesn’t cost them more than it did yesterday to extract fossil fuels. But supply has greatly decreased. This means increased prices but the same costs for them. Which in turn means higher profits. There is nothing nefarious going on here. Just basic economics.

    33. cuntybunty73 on

The oil companies are about the only ones that make a fucking profit out of this misery called war 🖕

    34. Decard_Pain on

So profits are going through the roof? So the price increases aren’t justified? Seems like something the government should be doing something about.

    35. Pathetic. Price increases at pump for what reason then if we’re still using oil that was obtained at pre US invasion costs
