It’ll be especially tough to negotiate a new deal with Iran — William Burns, one of the principal negotiators on the Obama-era deal, emphasized that „Unless the lines are clearly drawn and strictly monitored, the Iranians will paint outside them.“ The risk is now particularly dire, as Iran’s present stockpile could be used to build 35 to 55 new weapons, and there is no clear way for the US to either negotiate or locate and forcefully take the enriched uranium.

      Is there a name for this form of soft bigotry where westerners are the only ones with agency and everyone else in the world just reacts mindlessly to our choices?

      Iran has hundreds of kg of enriched uranium because Iran spent considerable time, effort and money creating enriched uranium. Trump’s idiocy certainly didn’t help the situation, but that’s not the same as him (or us) causing it.
