In Osaka findet eine „Nein zur Fremdenfeindlichkeit“-Demonstration statt, bei der gegen Gewalt gegen Ausländer protestiert wird

One of my coworkers got her renewed residence card last week. She’s been living in Japan for a while now, no real issues, paying taxes, relatively good salary, speaks Japanese very well. When she told us she got a 1 year stay yet again, the Japanese people on the office seemed visibly confused. The foreigners were more like „heh“ about it.

Most Japanese don’t really have any idea how immigration works here (because the media is willingly not reporting properly) but when they hear about it they understand how annoying it can be. I guess most people assume it’s super easy to the point that a lot of low wage workers come here on a whim with 5 year visas, but when they see „one of the good ones“ having a hard time they do sympathise with us. It’s good that more people are getting to understand how fucked up those changes are, but too little too late I guess
