War letzte Nacht kurz nach Mitternacht in Sognsvann und habe einen Blick auf das Nordlicht erhaschen können! Ich war gerade über das Wochenende aus Spanien hier und bin daher sehr glücklich, sie gesehen zu haben 🙂

It’s not normal to see northern lights in the south, but it happens.
AURORA BOREALIS!?!?!?
Yeah, it’s ‘normal’ now.
Sun activity is in its highest phase right now even places which normally don’t have auroras will have them
Fun fact! It usually happens the night before an earthquake.
We have had some nice Aurora Borealis the last week.
But it is quiet now compared to last winter.
Definitely very lucky.
It is not normal, so you got lucky. And Sognsvann is a good place to see it, as it is away from some of the light pollution from the city.
Great shot!
Yes, this year the activity is going to be at its strongest in years (also very strong last year abd next year) and then it means that it will also be possible to experience the Northern Lights also further to the South in Norway and also further South in Europe. The Sun’s magnetic cycle is of 11 years, and we’re in the 25th cycle since they started counting in the 1700’s. The magnetic activity is extreme for 2026. The 25th cycle that we’re in counts from 2019 until 2030. While the 24th cycle was weak, the 25th is very strong and this year we experience the strongest activity in 20 years or so. So, yeah, in short don’t be surprised if you see the Northern Lights in areas where it’s usually not that common. Enjoy it, as people are getting spoiled now that the activity is really strong. It will then weaken again in the years to come.
normally no, but it happens occasionally. had a year that a fair amount of places in the south had northern lights.. but again not too common 🙂
