You telling me, that other countries dont allow you to buy number without prior identification?

    The map is incorrect.
In Bosnia, you can still buy a physical SIM card at a kiosk without providing ID or registering it in the system.
This is expected to change in the coming years, but as of 2026, it is still not required by law.

  3. In Romania it’s not changing soon. The Government tried to make ID mandatory for prepaids but it was always struck down by the Constitutional Court and there have been no new proposals in the past 6 years.

I live in Czechia, I know CZ is more liberal than its neighbors in many regards, but to be presented with an example of it like this is definitely interesting.

Afaik, in Germany you can buy a SIM card without ID, but you need to identify before activating the line

I’m pretty certain I bought my SIM card in Germany from Kaufland with no ID

Portugal you can definitely buy anonymously, sometimes they ask for id but if they do just say you don’t have one and they’ll sell it anyway in my experience

It didn’t stop terrorists but it did stop or degrade people’s privacy and contributed a step further to feeling like living in Orvell’s 1984.

  9. Netherlands might be anonymous but I’m pretty sure you need a Dutch bank account to open one, at least that’s what I was told a million times when I moved here.

  10. Hi, for Serbia this is not true, you can go to a street kiosk and say: „one sim card please“ and that’s it. No ID required.

And even if you got it years ago, you don’t need to go and register it either.

  11. I’m sure the UK will change soon with out current government’s authoritarian war on privacy and free speech.

I guess in countries where people are happy to have national digital ID cards allowing the state to track them 24/7 not being able to buy a SIM without letting the government know isn’t a big deal.

  12. When did Poland change? I’m pretty sure I bought one at a Biedronka in 2021 without ID.

If some of today’s law makers had been around in the 80s they’d have banned pay phones as dangerous untraceable communications devices.

It doesn’t change in Romania….it’s the same with no ID and it will not change because it’s not constitutionally possible. Anyone can get a pre-paid SIM regardless of nationality anywhere in Romania, what you can’t get without is a monthly or yearly subscription but that is since the very beginning

Удивлён что в Британии это всё ещё можно сделать

It really sucks for tourists that this get implemented. 2 weeks in a certain country. Just buy a sim-card with atleast a gig of data. Throw it away when you leave.

What else is one supposed to do? e-sim doesn’t work on all phones, and using your foreign simcard might be extremely expensive.

  17. We should rename the Baltic states as the Baltic stree lights. It’s always:
    🔴
    🟢
    🔵

I’ve never seen a map where at least two are the same colour lol

  18. I wonder if there’ll become a point where everyone agrees that true privacy is completely impossible.

en chile te obligan a asociar un chip aunque sea prepago a tu ID o carnet de indentificacion oficial

I like how the Swedish media criticizes Russia for this but just ignores that it’s already a law in **S**weden.
