Gotta love the irony here. They act as though this was a casual policy decision made for no reason when in reality it’s a bed the US made for us very easily.

  2. What kind of enforcement action is even available to them? Isn’t this just a matter of our provincial purchasers choosing not to buy certain products?

Yup, that’s the ‚leader of the free world‘, threatening the government of another country because their people CHOSE to boycott US products due to the behaviour of their (The US’s) administration.

They can push to put their products on Canadian shelves, but as long as Canadians know they’re from the US, a lot of those products are going to stay on those shelves.

Cool, glad you guys are upset. That’s why we’re doing this. Thank you for continuing to reaffirm it’s having an effect.

  5. As if our politicians could stop us. How weak can they get? I can’t believe we let them have a hegomony. They don’t evn know where the line is any more.

Threats? That is why we took the booze out in the first place. Threats and tariffs only serve to weaken our trading relationship. Maybe if they pay an entry fee we can start a dialogue.

  7. “There are two countries that have [retaliated economically against the United States](https://financialpost.com/tag/canada-u-s-relations/) in the past year: the People’s Republic of China and Canada,” Greer said. “My sense is there may have to be an enforcement action to deal with this issue on wine and spirits in Canada.”

    Why are USraeli’s so mad?

  8. It’s called the FREE market. Wild that it’s always conservatives these days saying boycotts are stupod and don’t work when they’re supposed to be the guardians of the all powerful market.

Who cares. It’s just noise. I’ll care about what American politicians say when they elect a non-rapist.

They are in a bit of a corner, they cannot pull out of CUSMA, they need it too much, they cannot invoke tariffs on a whim, the playing field has changed dramatically from when Trudeau was PM, no one listens to their threats anymore, things are not so great at home and we are forging new partnerships. They want this concession because they know it is not in the purview of the federal government and will not be an item officially on the table.

Carney said the official negotiations could “take some time”. All we have to do is wait. From the midterms it’s all any easy downhill slide to the election.
