Last time Carney negotiated with the US we gave up concessions for nothing in return. It’s not like he’s actually had that great a track record so far on this issue, we’re in a worse position than when he took power and the claims of „oh we have the best deal in the world“ don’t really hold water when you remember by default we had the best deal in the world before this whole fiasco. Patting yourself on the back for something you didn’t do is part of the liberal MO but it’s still pretty pathetic.

Now he promises not to give up any more concessions to restart talks, notice he doesn’t say he won’t give any concessions period, but he also promised plenty of other things that he’s already backed down on including the DST, including retaliatory tariffs, including caps not cuts, etc

That is one of PP’s biggest issues as a candidate. He has no resume or accomplishments to point to to contrast himself with Carney who is highly educated and accomplished. Arguably the most accomplshed Canadian on the macro economic front. This makes all of the criticisms and attacks ring hollow because they can all apply to him as well.

    * Carney is out of touch…..says the career politician who has basically never held a real job.
    * Carney is badly educated in economics…says the person who has BA from UofC after doing online coursework through Athabasca,
    * Carney is a bad negotiator…says the person who has never had to negotiate a business deal in his life
    * Carney is doing dirty backroom deals…when past CPC governments have done the same and he himself never took a stand against floorcrossers until he was losing MPs

Some of the criticism aren’t unfair, but they would be much more effective coming from somebody with more gravitas. The other people that the CPC trots out all the time are also not likeable like Andrew Scheer who has already been rejected by Canadian and Melissa Lantsman who seems to be going for female PP as her style and demeanour.

He negotiated an elected MP stepping aside so he could run for an easy seat after he lost. And he negotiated staying in Stornoway despite not being an elected MP / Leader of the Official Opposition in the HOC. Take that Carney. lol

How, after all that’s happened in the last year, is Poilievre running back the „trade with the US is in a bad place because Canada is stupid“ line?

Are his new advisors actually calling for this, or is he just unable to stay on message?

    > the “only talks that Mark Carney is doing are YouTube videos.”

Yes, Carney *famously* hasn’t been having trade talks since being elected. These are all such awful, obviously ridiculous attacks.

I really hope the media stop just reporting on what Poilievre says and start spending a lot more time actually contextualising it. Dominating the conversation with constant nonsense is exactly what Trump did. We need to be better.
