Not specifically Telugu. All South Indian Dravidian languages have the word ’naranga‘ like my language Malayalam. So it can be said as Proto-Dravidian.

We call it tchina in Algeria, apparently it first came to us from China, so it got its name from it
Am from the part of India where ’narangi‘ is Orange color, while ’santra‘ is the orange fruit
Norwegian is wrong: oransje is a colour, appelsin is a fruit (see Danish).
More interesting is what word for color orange was used before orange fruit became a default thing for that color
So Portuguese just called it Portugal?
I’m reading Oranges by John McPhee right now, it talks about this.
in Kashmiri its „Sàngtar“
Why is this being posted over and over? It could have been interesting but it’s not, because it’s full of errors AND is excluding a lot of languages.

Wow! The Saharan Desert region got a pretty long way to say “Orange”
オレンジ
TIL In Greek both Arabic and Old Arabic words are used. We typically refer to [bitter orange](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitter_orange) as „nerantzi“ and [sweet orange](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_(fruit)) as „portokali“
