Why is this even a topic for discussion? A PM establishes a council to gather views, of course they are going to ensure the membership is broad-based.

The last decade in politics has been so polarizing that we forget that faced with a large threat this is how things *should* work. O’Toole is a good man to have on this committee and I applaud Carney for doing this. Certainly the committee has a very different feel then if Pollievre had crafted it or Trudeau had.

This is normal and Mr. O’Toole has no need to justify himself. There was a time when this would have been welcomed by all except now it’s seen as appeasement by a small sect of LPC members or seen as undercutting Poilievre by some CPC members.

Politics isn’t inherently partisan – that’s something that was introduced across the world over time and further exacerbated in the past decade. Decisions such as this aren’t meant to be polarizing. Unelected officials – which O’Toole is now – have no need to justify themselves.

I disagree with O’Toole on a number of issues but I will say that I have the utmost respect for him and always will.
