      this is one of those stories that reminds you how messy and risky this whole “war on drugs” actually is

      these weren’t frontline soldiers, but they were still pulled into something that sits in this grey zone between intelligence work and active operations… and it still ended in people dying

      and the bigger thing is how quiet all of this usually is, expanding roles, cross-border cooperation, political pressure, until something like this happens and suddenly it’s visible for a moment

      four people dead, and it raises more questions than answers about how far this kind of involvement is going

      You know, I’m no expert, but dying on foreign territory as a CIA spook and it being publicized is sub optimal.

      I feel like the drug issue could pretty easily be solved if the US focuses on demand-side stuff.

      Without a warrant, you can sample sewage to screen for metabolites and follow the trail to areas of high concentration. Enhance your police presence there, just stop people for completely legal reasons, and you’ll find the drugs.

      Why don’t we do this? Because those tactics would concentrate police in affluent areas.

      This would be an insane scandal under any other administration.. with resignations, trials, investigations, etc.

      It’s just another Tuesday under the Trump administration. No one cares, or at least cares enough to do anything about it. It’s just an accepted loss now. Interesting how times have changed I suppose.
