      I don’t care if you’re not afraid of the flu, you are less effective when sick and your unit is less effective if there is a breakout.

      The irony of calling them „warriors“ while making them more vulnerable to a virus that has historically killed more soldiers than combat is… something. Military readiness isn’t just about big guns; it’s about being physically capable of operating them. This feels like a political win at the expense of operational health.

      Pretty clear this entire administrations goal is funnel as much US wealth away from its people as possible, and disrupt and diminish the US military.

      I just finished reading a biography of George Washington. I was struck by the strategic brilliance of his move to require the entire Continental Army, and any who had regular contact with them, to be inoculated for smallpox. He knew stopping the spread of disease made for a stronger army.

      Geez, Washington was so woke.

      What could ever happen from the flu in a war? Come on, everyone knows brave soldiers are not and have never been affected by the flu. They can just walk it off. Right 1918? Right??

      Tell me you have 0 idea of how the military works without telling me.

      Even if you’ve only been to boot camp, you’ve seen how fast a disease can spread when you’ve got 100 people cramped together for an extended period of time. Now make it a ship with 5,000 sailors isolated at sea.

      Nothing like shutting down an entire command so as not to appear “woke”.

      If George Washington wasn’t so “woke” he wouldn’t have vaccinated the Continental Army for smallpox at Valley Forge and we would still be part of Britain. Which currently doesn’t sound so bad…

      From the guy who on national TV claimed doesn’t wash his hands after using the bathroom because he can’t see germs. If he can’t see then germs don’t exist.

      „I inoculate myself,“ added the Harvard and Princeton graduate.

      His remarks came after co-hosts Ed Henry and Jedediah Bila made fun of him for eating left-over pizza.“

      Such a weird choice. Historically disease was the leading causes of casualties during war. Thanks to modern vaccines, that is no longer the case. Hegseth would prefer we go back to that, I guess.

      Your soldiers are stressed, not eating balanced meals and close together for extended periods; the perfect breeding ground for disease. Wouldn’t you want to keep them vaccinated against something as potentially debilitating as the flu? Do you really want whole companies puking and too exhausted to fight in the middle of a war?

      Hegseth is the poster boy for „stupid masculinity“.

      Flu and other viruses don’t care how brave our soldiers are.

      Spanish flu killed more soldiers during WW1 than the actual war itself.

      i remember arguing with someone about this at a party and somehow it turned into a full on debate with strangers… i just wanted a drink and suddenly i’m defending my entire worldview 😭

      You don’t get to have medical autonomy when you are expected to be fit to serve. Adversaries would love for 50% of otherwise fit soldiers to be incapacitated by something like flu. So Hegseth is compromising the readiness of the soldiers he oversees under the banner of giving them their rights back.

      My (small) base had such a bad outbreak that some active duty people had to be hospitalized. I was SIQ for an entire week. That’s with the mandate and the vaccine. I can’t even imagine how bad it will be without the mandate. So stupid.

      An average of 48,000-65,000 Americans die each year from the flu from people of all ages and physical health.

      The war on science in the current administration is stupid, dangerous, and abhorrent.
