***The Telegraph reports:***
Hungary would arrest Benjamin Netanyahu if he visited the country under its new leadership, the prime minister-elect has said.
[Peter Magyar](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/04/13/what-hungarys-new-leader-really-stands-for/) said the country would respect its obligation to detain leaders on its territory if they were sought by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The incoming leader also claimed he would halt a decision by his predecessor, [Viktor Orbán](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/viktor-orban/), to quit the Hague-based tribunal.
The ICC issued [an arrest warrant](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2024/11/21/netanyahu-arrest-warrant-issued-live/) for Mr Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, over alleged crimes against humanity in connection with the war in Gaza.
Hungary, under the leadership of Mr Orbán, became the first European country to defy the ICC by refusing to arrest the Israeli leader upon arrival at Budapest airport last year.
Legal experts said the move could lead to [Hungary](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/hungary/) becoming a haven for international war criminals.
Mr Orbán also suggested he was prepared to welcome Vladimir Putin, who is also subject to an ICC arrest warrant for alleged [war crimes in Ukraine](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/04/13/stop-the-killing-in-ukraine-new-hungarian-pm-tells-putin/), for peace talks with Donald Trump.
But Mr Magyar, who won a [landslide election](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/04/12/orban-concedes-defeat-hungarian-election/) to become Hungary’s first new prime minister in 16 years, sees reversing these decisions as part of the plan to [restore Hungary’s relations with the EU](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2026/04/15/hungary-new-pm-anti-orban-purge-block-state-propaganda/).
By repairing alliances in Brussels, he hopes to secure billions of euros of funding from the EU.

As he should. As any political leader with a sense of justice should.
Just to clarify, he didn’t openly say but strongly implied that they would
However, they invited all leaders to attend the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian revolution in October. He also said they would halt the procedure to leave the ICC
So Netanyahu was invited out of politeness. BUT, I’m pretty sure they both know he won’t be coming. This is more a diplomatic and political gesture towards his voters and the EU. I highly doubt if Netanyahu really came it would be Hungary to arrest him.
