Even countries where fertility rates „still“ remain above 2.1 are experiencing an annual decline. In such an unwelcoming world, humanity as a whole is moving towards a loss of the desire to have children.

When do you think world population Reach it’s height ?

As someone from Kazakhstan, not surprised. We were the only family in my class who has just two children (others were 3+) and if you go outside, there are kids everywhere. I think it’s that it wasn’t that hard to have a child even in a big city until very recently and protection for mothers in workplaces (can not be fired while caring for a child,3 years of mother leave). It’s nice

Saw a documentary saying why poor countries have more kids it’s because they need people to help farm. Also the death rate is much higher especially in war torn countries which most of these countries are. It is not by choice as they’re poor, more kids = more food. It is needed for farming. Also in the documentary that focused on South Korea and Japan as the opposite, it just didn’t make any economic sense to have kids. It’s literally impossible to afford. This was a 2024 documentary though.

this is good news for people who believe that all humans are the same and can be interchangeable as workers in a modern , global, high tech world. bad news for people who don’t believe that.

Kind of scary the speed of babies being pumped out in Africa. They can barely feed the current population.

I know it’s the official term, but don’t you think „fertility rate“ is a bit of a weird term? It has very little to do with how fertile people are and a lot more to do with how many children they choose to have and their access to contraceptives.

Reverse natural selection – the least successful, least prosperous individuals tend to reproduce the most while the most prosperous are dying out. Not sure if this is a winning strategy for human kind.
On the other hand, the imminent gradual decline of global human population is good news for the rest of the habitat of planet earth.
