      ***The Telegraph reports:***

Boko Haram militants have threatened to execute more than 400 women and children they are holding hostage within 72 hours.

A faction from the terror group delivered the ultimatum in a video to Nigerian media after demanding a ransom of more than £2.7m from the government.

The video showed armed, masked men in paramilitary uniform warning that if their demands were not met, the captives would never be seen again.

The West African nation is experiencing an epidemic of kidnappings, banditry and hostage-taking by criminal gangs, insurgents and militia.

Boko Haram came to global attention in 2014 when the group kidnapped nearly 300 schoolgirls from Chibok Secondary School in Borno state.

The video showed a spokesman introducing the group by its full name, Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidwatu Wal-Jihad under Imam Abu, and saying its three-day ultimatum would be its “first and final message”.

In the video, the man said: “If our demands are not met, we will move these victims, including women and children, to different locations.

“All of them. You have made your decision, and we have made ours. We instruct you, in the name of Allah, not to exceed the given time.”

2016 really is coming back. Haven’t heard from Boko Haram in like 10 years.

How can anyone do such things without weeping at how evil they are? I don’t get the mindset of such people…

« […]introducing the group by its full name, Jama’atu Ahlis-Sunna Lidwatu Wal-Jihad under Imam Abu »

      And

« […]They said the violence was not religiously motivated »

      It’s translated as
« Association of the People of the Sunnah for Preaching and Jihad »

      **nothing to do with religion

      literal translation:
      • Jama’atu (جماعة) — “Group,” “congregation,” “assembly,” or “community/society of.”
      • Ahlis-Sunna (أهل السنة) — “People of the Sunnah” or “Folks of the Tradition.”
      • Ahl = people/family/folk.
      • as-Sunnah = the Sunnah (the established practices, sayings, and example of the Prophet Muhammad, as opposed to innovation or Shia traditions in this context). This term often implies “Sunnis” or “adherents to the Prophet’s way.”
      • Lidwatu (للدعوة, properly lid-daʿwah or lid-Da’wa) — “For the da’wah” (preaching, calling/invitation, propagation, or missionary work to spread Islam).
      • Li- = “for” or “to.”
      • Da’wah = the act of inviting/calling people to Islam (or to proper practice of it).
      • Wal-Jihad (والجهاد) — “and the Jihad.”
      • Wa- = “and.”
      • Jihad (jihād) literally means “striving,” “effort,” “exertion,” or “struggle” (from the root j-h-d). In this militant context, it refers to armed struggle or holy war, though the word itself is broader in Islamic usage.

I’ve been trying to follow what’s going on in Mali, Congo, Nigeria, etc. for years and it’s just very hard to get updates (if anyone has a good source, plz recommend). It’s sad that tragedies have to compete for attention. Also sad it’s always always the women that are suffering the most.

It’s sadder seeing so many comments here using this to be smug and feel „vindicated“ oh ffs. Disgusting behavior. If you are an adult, you should be ashamed.

Africa is still largely a developing continent, and ongoing conflicts between groups continue to hinder its progress. The spread of extremist organizations like ISIS and other islamic groups in parts of the region adds further challenges, making the situation appear difficult to improve. May they overcome the challenges sooner.

    7. A group of Africans are doing atrocities against other Africans in the name of a religion which was forced upon their ancestors by invaders from outside.

    8. How very religious of them, these are surely pious men who practice the teachings of god…

Boko haram has raged on since the early 2010s, they made others terrorists look like the Easter bunny. This is buisness as per usual for them.

They think Saudi, Iran and Afghanistan are too western, basically they are the only ones who are ”Muslim enough”. Anyone who dosent agree with their extreme views are fair game, including other Muslim. They are not targeting Christians specifically which some makes it seems to score political points on the atrocities.

This is ridiculous. Nigeria needs to get its shit together and wipe these animals from existence.
